Incumbent Ron Walker received 1,965 votes Saturday evening to win re-election as Victoria College trustee for District 7. Walker, a local attorney, beat Patrick McEnroe, who received 676 votes.

Saturday’s results reflect acknowledgement of what the college has done for the community, Walker said.

“It was not accomplished by me, but by an outstanding faculty, staff and administration,”Walker said. “I’m most proud of Victoria College’s students.”

Walker, who has been a member of the college’s board since 1985, said he looks forward to working with Robert Musgrove, the sole finalist for the Victoria College presidency.

Musgrove has extensive experience and a strong academic background, Walker said, and is committed to maintaining Victoria College’s reputation for excellence.

McEnroe said that, if he had won the position, he would have checked into a 1990 bond issue, which allotted $12 million to restore aging Victoria College buildings and build a new one.

When the college sold the building to UHV years later –for about $5 million – he said that money should have gone to pay off the bond, rather than to construct a new building.

“I’m not angry that I got beat,” he said. “I really wasn’t expecting to win. But if I had been elected, that’s what I would have done.”
