Flatonia decks Granger, heads to state tourney

BRENHAM -- Flatonia rallied for seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and went on to a 9-6 win over Granger in Game 2 of their best-of-three Class 1A regional final series on Saturday at Fireman’s Park.

The Bulldogs (24-5-1), who captured a 7-0 win in Game 1 on Thursday night, swept the series and advanced to the state tournament for the first time since winning the Class 1A state title in 1993.

Flatonia will play a semifinal game Friday at 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.

The Bulldogs were trailing 5-1 going into the fourth before sending 11 batters to the plate and taking an 8-6 lead. Chris Migl had a triple, double and two RBIs to lead Flatonia at the plate. Sean Masek added two RBIs, Hunter Pinney had a triple and an RBI and Dakota Pinney had a double and an RBI.

Mike Holly hit a two-run home run for the Lions, who ended the season at 23-10.
