Cuero makes splash in TSWA Class 3A all-state team

Cuero enjoyed its best baseball season since 1996 and it did not go unnoticed.

The Gobblers won the District 29-3A championship and advanced to the regional semifinals and six members of the team were recognized on the Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 3A all-state squad.

Junior catcher Jake Rangnow and junior second baseman Chance Harryman were selected to the second team, seniors pitcher Mark Herrera and outfielders Tyler Arndt, a sophomore, and Troy Ruiz, a junior, were chosen on the third team and junior pitcher and shortstop Jennings Boothe received honorable mention.

Also earning honorable mention were Gonzales sophomore shortstop Ckody Burton, junior third baseman Marshall Lamprecht and senior outfielder Jacob Bird.

Rangnow hit .415 with two home runs, three triples, 13 doubles and 57 RBI. Rangnow scored 37 runs and stole 51 bases. Harryman hit .404 with four home runs, 10 doubles and 44 RBIs. Harryman scored 61 runs and stole 51 bases.

Herrera, who will play at St. Mary’s University next season had a 10-1 record with a 2.05 ERA and struck out 117 in 75 innings.

Arndt hit .438 with five home runs, five triples, 14 doubles and 52 RBI. He scored 50 runs and stole 23 bases. Ruiz hit .417 with one home run, two triples and nine doubles and 43 RBIs. He scored 48 runs and stole 37 bases.

Pitcher Brent Bollinger of state champion Snyder was the player of the year and Snyder’s Charles Bollinger was the coach of the year.
