The Jaguars failed to make it into the second day of the NAIA Region VI softball tournament as they were eliminated Thursday night in a 1-0 loss to Saint Gregory’s.
UHV (32-18) went 2-2 at the tournament and now must wait to see if it will receive one of the seven at-large berths to the NAIA Softball Championships. The Jaguars, who are in their inaugural season, had to wait until Sunday to find out if they were granted an at-large berth to the Region VI tournament.
Jessie Munson’s solo home run off UHV’s Lauren Garza to lead off the bottom was all the run support Saint Gregory’s pitcher Sharon Bell needed.
UHV’s first loss was to top-seeded Oklahoma City 6-0 as Stars pitcher Jenni Gaby shut out the Jaguars for the second time this season. The Jaguars managed only three hits off Gaby, who struck out four and walked three.
The Jaguars began the day with an 8-0 victory over Northwood University behind two home runs from Stephanie Lavey and a combined shutout by Lauren Garza and Kristen Lindley and then beat College of the Southwest 5-1 behind Lindley’s 3-for-4, 3-RBI performance.
