CUERO – Lightning from a storm early Friday morning knocked out electrical service to about 2,000 Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative customers near Cuero.

“A breaker on the transmission side of the power transformer in the Cuero sub-station was likely hit by lightning, but we’re waiting for confirmation on that,” said Barbara Kuck, community and marketing manager for GVEC. Kuck said about 2,000 customers were affected by the outage.

The electricity went out at 4:52 a.m. and power was restored at 6:45 a.m.

In Cuero, about 150 households in the northern part of the town were without power until shortly after 7 a.m. Emergency power came on in some areas about 6:40 a.m.
