GOLIAD – In the only contested race in Goliad County, incumbent Jim Kreneck won the Republican Party nomination for county commissioner, Precinct 3.

He beat three other candidates. Kreneck received 72.18 percent of the vote. He will be unopposed in the Nov. 4 general election.

Kreneck, 63, has been in office for the last seven years. He said it was stressful having three candidates run against him.

“I am very grateful it turned out the way it did,” he said.

Phil Seiler, 55, a business owner, was his closest opponent, with 19.18 percent of the vote. The other two candidates split the rest of the votes. Barry Karnei received 7.19 percent, while Jerome Dueser received 1.44 percent.

Kreneck said he would continue to serve to the best of his abilities. “I will continue to fight uranium mining, for clean water,” he added.

This was the only contested race in the Goliad County primaries. The voter turnout for the Democratic Party primary was heavy with 60 percent of the 5, 427 registered voters turning out to vote.
