Captain David Miles of the Matagorda County Sheriffs office was selected as the new Palacios police chief by the city of Palacios on Friday, April 11, from 40 candidates.

Miles has been captain over the criminal investigation department and narcotics at the Matagorda County Sheriffs Office since 2001 and has been in law enforcement for 29 years.

Miles said he applied for the position in early March and got the call on Friday that he had been selected.

"This is a dream come true," Miles said. "This is what every career-minded person tries to do: go to the top of their profession. My family and I are really excited about me being selected as police chief."

Miles is married to his wife Jane and has five children. Miles said he should start his new job sometime in May.
