Ron Paul staff counters ethics question

Editor, the Advocate: Wednesday’s editorial titled “Paul may have overlooked ethics in effort to publicize his ideas” was a real head-scratcher. The author correctly points out that Dr. Paul is widely respected and recognized for his unimpeachable integrity, calling him “one of Washington’s few honest politicians.” On this point, I wholeheartedly agree. more >>

Told to park in restricted area

Editor, the Advocate: The Sheriff’s DARE Officer at Guadalupe Elementary School insisted that I pull over to a restricted area so he could park were I was parked. He stated that he would give me a written citation. He had a line of parents waiting to come in. He embarrassed me so much. I am tired of the Sheriff’s department hassling me for no reason, but for the sheer pleasure of wearing the badge! I am a law abiding citizen. I have never been in trouble with the law. I voted for Mr. Michael T. O’Connor because I believe in his knowledge and fairness to every individual. I will reconsider voting again because of the unfairness of the people who come into office. Where is real, true justice? more >>

Warrior’s Weekend was gratifying experience

Editor, the Advocate: Last Saturday, my husband, Tim, and I were honored to participate in Warrior's Weekend. We took our wounded soldier, his wife and young son fishing, and a fabulous time was had by all. more >>

Stealing from the Poor

Editor, the Advocate: Good morning. Well, last night (May 6) it was us. The crime spree in Palacios is now personal. We live one block behind Main Street, "in the forgotten block." We live midst junk cars, junk and trash galore, and we are drowning in ordinances from the city. Each time we have a problem, we get an ordinance. So the next ordinance will be "crime is a crime." more >>

Musical Zoo

Editor, the Advocate: Methodist Day School would like to thank Debbie Durham, education coordinator for the Victoria Symphony, for bringing the Musical Zoo to our school. The students learned about many different orchestra instruments by getting to hold and play each one. This is a wonderful program the Victoria Symphony offers. Thank you again, Methodist Day School more >>

Letters

Editor, the Advocate: I believe that there are some roads in Victoria that are being overlooked. They need to be fixed. There are potholes and bumps all the way down them. I think that all roads should be looked at and fixed based on the ones that need it most. We are wasting money on streets that are in better condition than others. They might have a couple spots where they are bad, but there are others that are worse and are being overlooked. more >>

Bike Trail Needed

Editor, the Advocate: Biking. With gas prices rising, why is the city of Victoria not planning ahead of time? There are some of us who would like to ride our bikes to work or to other places of interest. There is no way of riding across Navarro, the loop and other major streets. There are no bike trails. In a lot of places there are no sidewalks, and if there are, there may be a a big pole stuck in the middle of it. It is not safe to ride here in Victoria. I think Victoria should think about starting to make it safe to ride and to walk. more >>

Callers speak out

You had a good article on the love bugs, but you didn’t tell people how to protect their vehicles. They need to know. Soak three or four cotton balls in Johnson’s baby oil and wipe it all over the front of you car, including the backs of you outside windows, the grill. Baby oil will not hurt your chrome or your paint or anything else and it sure makes your car easier to wash later. Lamoin more >>

Gaining less, losing more paper

Editor, the Advocate: Why is it , every time you go up on subscriptions, we lose more paper? The past year you dumped Georgie Ann Geyer and others, then Baxter Black and now poor Fred in the funnies. I noticed the Sunday paper has plenty of advertisements. Don’t those people pay to advertise? more >>

RE: Wright or wrong? He has finally come to the conclusion I did the first time I heard the so called "snippets." He has finally said the obvious about Wright's nutty suggestion that the government created the HIV virus to kill blacks. He has finally seen that there can be no context for such a blood libel. Perhaps many in the country have seen that he is not up to the job of being President, not because of what his minister said, but because it took him so long to comprehend it."Slow learner? more >>
