Warrior’s Weekend to honor veterans
advertising
On May 3, an estimated 150-200 soldiers who have been wounded in either Iraq of Afghanistan plus some family members, will be met by over 125 boats at Froggie’s Bait Dock in Port O’Connor for a day of fishing and celebration of their service.

These soldiers are coming from Ft. Bragg, Ft. Hood, Walter Reed Hospital and Broods Army Medical Center (BAMC) in San Antonio, Some of the soldiers will arrive on Friday afternoon and five chartered buses are scheduled to arrive from BAMC around 9:30-10 a.m. on Saturday.

This is the second year of Warrior’s Weekend and it will be quite an event. On the schedule is a friendly fishing competition among the military guests, paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne sky-diving from a Blackhawk helicopter at the Port O’Connor Community Center, barbeque meal for the troops, sponsors and ticket holders, several things for children including jumpers and a live fish tank they can fish in, live bands and music by DJ Ace, and greetings from several dignitaries for the troops.

All of this will take place under a huge tent. Also scheduled are static displays from the military including humvees and an Apache helicopter.

Tickets for the barbeque meal are $10 for adults and $5 for children and are pre-sale only. They are limited and available at Victoria Communications, Quality Suzuki, Froggie’s Bait Dock and Ron Kocian’s office, at 3603 Miori Lane.

There will be other vendors on site to sell food if you do not purchase a meal ticket.

We believe this to be the largest event of it’s kind in the country. We would invite everyone to come down to Port O’Connor in the morning to greet the troops and then join them later at the community center for a celebration of their service to our country. It will be quite a day.
