Guys with skills can steal a heart
advertising
It turns out the way to a woman’s heart may not be so different than a man’s—through her stomach.

Personal experience and anecdotal evidence have led me to believe that many women still like having a man around with a certain set of skills. These skills sometimes include but are not limited too: opening jars, reaching items on tall shelves, building and/or fixing things, carrying heavy boxes and doing other more intimate acts.

However, as the world becomes more gender neutral, traditionally feminine skill sets are opening up as ways for men to woo the ladies. This skill set might include gardening and my latest favorite—cooking.

Ladies have a lot of activities on their plates and sometimes have to say “no” to something fun in order to fulfill other obligations. But having a personal chef for the evening is a much more enticing offer than simply going out for a bite to eat. (Not to fear, the appreciation extends to men who love grilling over open flame as well.)

So I turned to my friends to help me figure out why dining in can be so appealing.

Answer #1: the creativity factor. Making food can be a creative act, which begins with an idea and a set of ingredients, and with care, turns into edible artistry. Even if it’s not a masterpiece, the effort he puts in to making you a meal is something worth appreciating.

Answer #2: the investigative factor. The type of food he’s cooking probably speaks to his personality and preferences. Plus, if you haven’t been over to his place yet, this is a prime opportunity to check out his digs. The bachelor pad may end up telling you more about the man than the meal.

Answer #3: the two of you can get cozy…

But there are benefits for the men as well. Why should guys bother to dirty up their own kitchens?

Answer #1: it may be cheaper than dining out. Most of the time, gentleman still pick up the tab for dinner (at least in the early dating phase). So if you can concoct a tasty meal, gourmet or no, go for it. Caution: this may involve actual grocery shopping, something beyond the oranges and the bottle of mustard that have called your fridge “home”since January.

Answer #2: the girl will come to you for once. You can save energy and gas money by not driving around town either to meet at a restaurant or to pick her up. If she’s running late because she couldn’t pick an outfit, you won’t have to twiddle your thumbs at the bar for half an hour waiting for her. You can flick on your ESPN instead.

Answer #3: the two of you can get cozy…

Whether you cook cheese enchiladas or spaghetti with meatballs, it will be hard for the ladies to turn down a boy with skills.
