Area boy’s squads shut out of state golf tournament

The Advocate area will be represented this week at the UIL state golf tournament by three girl’s team and four individuals.Some may say those numbers are pretty good to have that kind of representation, but on the backside, it will be the first time since 1993 that the area is not sending a boy’s team to the state tournament. more >>

State berths at stake for area teams

While St. Joseph will be battling for the TAPPS Class 5A state golf titles on Monday and Tuesday, several other Advocate-area high schools will be trying to earn their own berths to the UIL state tournament this week. The Advocate-area will be represented in every classification in Region IV with the biggest contingent being in Class 2A where 10 teams will be trying to finish among the top two teams for a berth in the state tournament on May 5-9 in Austin. more >>

Time for UIL to let golf coaches coach

Getting the opportunity to watch a college golf tournament this week, I am again calling for the University Interscholastic League to come up with a way to allow high school golf coaches to coach their kids during tournaments. I don’t know of any other UIL sports where coaches don’t have an opportunity to interact with their players during athletic competition. The only time a golf coach is allowed to interact with players during the course of an event is at the turn (completion of nine holes) or before or after the tournament. more >>
