HALLETTSVILLE – Sheriff Micah Harmon beat Dennis Kocian Sr. with 67 percent of the vote in the Democratic bid for Lavaca County sheriff during Tuesday night’s primary election.

“We felt very confident all along with this election and had a lot of support from the community,” Harmon said. “We’re not really surprised by the results.”

Harmon will face Republican nominee William Dunsworth in the general election on Nov. 4.

When asked if he felt confident about that race, Harmon said he does, but not overly confident.

“I take all my opponents seriously and won’t be letting my guard down,” he added. “But the numbers tonight spoke for themselves. We’ll be ready for the election.”

In other contested Democrat primary races, Stuart Fryer received 58 percent of the vote to defeat Dayna S. Tuttle for the nomination for county attorney.
