Name: Scott DeBault

Age: 42

Office Seeking: Point Comfort City Council

City and County of Residence: Point Comfort, Calhoun

Current Occupation: Supervisor for Formosa Plastics

Why do you want to serve in this office?

Point Comfort is my hometown. I am a third generation resident. I have lived here almost my whole life. I love this town and want to serve the people of this town.

What three issues facing this office do you feel are the most important and how will you approach them?

Not enough room for three issues much less the hottest issue, which is the vacant houses. My view is to write a vacant house ordinance that has some “teeth”to it. Also, I would write a demolition permit ordinance with a substantial fee. If a vacant house is not up to standards, then enforce the ordinance. If their solution to the substandard vacant house is to demolish it, let them and have them get a permit.

Name: Cary Kneupper

Age: 42

Office Seeking: Point Comfort City Councilman

City and County of Residence: Point Comfort, Calhoun

Current Occupation: Owner, Cary Construction LLC

Why do you want to serve in this office?

I was raised in Point Comfort. I am a life-long resident and property owner with strong ties to the community. Point Comfort has always been a close-knit community with wonderful churches, a great school and recreation. I am here to represent the citizens’ best interest not the local industry. I want to be a part of restoring Point Comfort to its original community based foundation.

What three issues facing this office do you feel are the most important and how will you approach them?

1. Improving streets– there are no available grants to maintain our streets and we are trying to work with the money that is available without burdening the citizens.

2. Houses that are not properly maintained– working with local industry to improve the appearance of the neighborhood.

3. Future development of our city– keeping the community improving and growing by making the right decisions when it comes to the city’s business.

Name: Kathy K. Morris

Age: 52

Office Seeking: Point Comfort City councilwoman

City and County of Residence: Point Comfort, Calhoun County

Current Occupation: Homemaker

Why do you want to serve in this office?

As a citizen and property owner, my passionate goal is, and always has been, to be the voice of the people I serve. In order to keep Point Comfort’s integrity, my responsibility is to protect the citizens from any and all special interests and opposing forces that would hinder, influence and or otherwise remove our rights and privileges.

What three issues facing this office do you feel are the most important and how will you approach them?

Commitment to see Point Comfort cleaned up from the effects local industry produces on the community and from unsightly structures that have developed over the past ten years.

Updating Point Comfort through its infrastructures using available grants when possible to offset city expenditure.

Enhancing recreational facilities and bay front with many projects – two new piers, dock, restroom, basketball court, park lights, updates to pool and much more to come – making it all accessible for everyone.

What three issues facing this office do you feel are the most important and how will you approach them?

Editor's note: answer exceeded word limit, it was cut.

First, the needs of our citizens has priority. To accomplish this a councilman must be an excellent listener. A councilman must then weigh the needs and represent the people’s desires.

Second is the vast number of unoccupied and unlivable homes in our community. I will strive to work with sides, owners and citizens, to promote and achieve a workable corrective plan.

Third is the safety of our citizens especially our children. Our streets must be safe…
