“We welcome everyone to come out and take part in all the activities and enjoy the fabulous food,” said the Rev. Father John Peters, pastor at Sacred Heart for 14 years. “We always have a good turnout and there is something for everyone.”
That “something” includes a country fried dinner, stew, homemade cornbread dressing and all the trimmings.
“People come from all around just for the cornbread dressing,” Peters said.
The meal will be served from 10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Drive-through plates are also available until 1 p.m. The cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children.
Inside the hall, at 321 U.S. Highway 77 S., bingo starts at noon and goes until 4 p.m. also available will be a cake walk, country store and a religious articles booth. Karaoke takes center stage from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
On the main pavilion, the music starts at 11 a.m. with Kovanda’s authentic Czech music. At 1 p.m. the scene shifts to the polka pavilion for a free dance with music by Red Ravens and the Dujka Brothers. The dance ends at 9 p.m.
In addition, a horseshoe tournament will begin at 2 p.m. and a washer pitching tournament will follow at 5 p.m. Rides and games for children will be held all afternoon.
A live auction is scheduled for 1 p.m. with numerous items on the block including a collection of more than 60 salt and pepper shakers donated by Eddie and Catherine Kosh and an antique sausage stuffer donated by Frank and Bernadette Bludau.
“We are happy to contribute,” said Catherine Kosh. “My mother collected these shakers and she passed away several years ago. She’d be pleased they are going to a great cause.”
