Editor, The Advocate:

Dr. Charles Jaynes recent column (Amarillo Globe, Feb. 11; Victoria Advocate, Feb. 18) indicated he’s in agreement with Gov. Perry’s plan to require vaccination of sixth-grade girls (so that older boys can use them and they won’t get pregnant?). This is thinking from the “culture of death.” Dr. Jaynes does not understand two things about contraception (i.e. condoms, IUD’s birth control pills, etc.). First, they have a 100-percent failure rate, and, second, they are abortifacients. Why the 100-percent failure rate? Because they take God out of the picture, he is no longer in charge, the pill is. And the pill puts poison in the womb and kills the conceived baby. The majority of mothers who go to have their baby dismembered say they were on the pill.

Contraception leads to divorce, broken homes and destroyed families. On the other hand, Natural Family Planning (NFP) leads to happy marriages, good families and good citizens.

When I was in high school, I never knew a pregnant teenager. Oh, I’m sure there were some, but for the vast majority of students, living a life of purity was “normal” and healthy. You do not get a broken heart from practicing chastity. Nor do you get any STDs. You do not make a baby or lose your self-respect (chastity means not fornicating before marriage and not committing adultery after you’re married).

But can we turn the clock back? No. But we can clean up the immorality that is tearing down our society. When children are taught good morals, they immediately reject things that are immoral.

What can you do? There are a growing number of families out there that are protecting their children and grandchildren from all immoral garbage. They do not watch bad movies; they monitor the TV and the Internet so that most of the channels are not there; they pray; they are going to church and they read the Bible and enjoy being a pure family. And you know what? Other children get to know them and want what they have. Purity is contagious. And don’t tell me that teenagers can’t control themselves; there are a lot of really good and pure young people who are practicing chastity.

Wm. Paul Tasin

  • Sailor-I have to say once again good post, very informative. I have to say I have a 5 year old daughter, I will get the HPV shot for her, not say here go out and have sex, cancer runs in my family, many women in my family have had abnormal pap screenings and I will do anything that could prevent that from happening to her. You are not giving them birth control it is a vaccine just like MMR, DPT, Polio, and flu the list goes on.

Now on the issue of birth control and abortions, I for one would rather see a child on birth control instead of sitting in an abortion clinic. I have heard first hand what that is like no child should have to go through that. They heard you in and out like cattle. So if one vs. the other. I choose birth control. I am in my late 30’s and would rather a girl that my son dates be protected than make him and her parents or me a grandmother, having to help support this child. NOT saying that my son is out having sex or anything that is just my opinion. I mean come on we were all in school. Back in the 80’s we had girls who were pregnant and had abortions. That is the time we are in. Is it correct no but it does happen.

With times as hard as they are, you have parents that are not around. One or both are working 2 jobs to make ends meet, they are working shift work, therefore, the children are raising themselves or they are in single parent homes and can not be there enough to support their children in decisions they make. Then you have those that just don’t care!

SO before you get on a soap box Mr. Tasin, take a good look at this from a mother (woman’s) point of view. The HPV vaccine is a wonderful thing, I would rather not see my niece or daughter go through cervical cancer, if there is a way to prevent it then so be it. As for the remark about little boys using the girls, get your mind out of the gutter and get past this.

  • This post by Sailor begs for a response: "The 'dismembered' statement leads me to believe you are alluding to Partial Birth Abortions which I think you will not find one supporter of that abomination anywhere. Others can correct me if I am wrong, but Partial Birth abortion IS Illegal in the USA and for good reason. Even the pro-choice crowd will agree that aborting a full term baby or near full term is murder."

I'd love to think you're right, but, alas, it's not so. Of course, most supporters of partial-birth abortion will hide this egregious attack on humanity by changing the definition.

The Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003 was passed and signed into law by President George Bush after years of setbacks when Clinton was being serviced - I mean, serving - in the Oval Office. The Senate voted 63-34 (Congresspedia says 64-33) in favor; the House passed the bill 282-139.

In 2002, a poll conducted by Medical Economics found that among all physicians, 27% were for keeping the method legal, while 44% said otherwise. 28% weren't sure. Among the obstretrician-gynecologists there was a sharper contrast. A whopping majority of 57% favored the ban as opposed to 33%.

Of course, you can always count on the blind support of everything WRONG from the ACLU, as well as NARAL - National Abortion Rights Action League.

Fortunately, a majority of level-headed, rational people prevailed, at least in this skirmish within a larger theater in the war for the defense of human life.

  • Mr Tasin, I have been reading your posts for years now....I have never agreed with them, but in years past they were at least rational.

Might I suggest that as you have aged a certain amount of dementia has taken over your rational thinking.

My suggestion would be that you no longer write letters to the editor since they only embarrass you and your family, make the Catholic Church look like it is composed of Wacko's like yourself, and do more harm in your fight against birth control and guilt free sexual activity than it does good.

Dr. Jaynes is correct, girls should be vaccinated against HPV before they are sexually active. Presently 1 in 4 women under 20 have an STD....most of them have HPV. HPV is the leading cause of Cervical cancer....at any age.

So tell me Mr. Tasin...You are actually advocating that a vaccine that can prevent 80% of cervical cancer should not be utilized? You really do hate women don't you? If that is your stand then you are most certainly Satan's advocate and not the Lord's.

  • The volume of misinformation in Tasin's letters never ceases to amaze me. WOW.
