Editor, the Advocate:

There has been a lot of work done to get our schools turned in the right direction. Superintendent Bob Moore demonstrated his abilities to lead and make good decisions, and he needs the same support going forward - the folks who were able to get Moore to come to Victoria, are the same folks who have done a lot of work to get us out of this hole called "consolidation."

Let's give the current people more time to finish the good work they started. Lou Svetlik and Tami Keeling have put a lot of effort to make sure the kids in this town get every opportunity to get the quality education that we deserve to give them. We are headed in the right direction. How many meetings has Charlie Jaynes attended prior to his announcement to run? Where was the concern? Only after Bob Moore axed the idea to let MTV film did Jaynes take interest in running.

Let's keep Svetlik and Keeling in place - give them your vote. They have demonstrated good leadership abilities and teamwork while on the school board. They are proven.

We cannot say that about Jaynes.

  • It was told to me that the drill team leader would like each HS to have a drill team and when competition comes around they will form 1 team to represent Victoria as "Victoriadores".
usually some part of a rumor carrys some part of truth. so I guess that is why the officers are already being political correct w/ the elections. dunno.

  • Svetlik's time has come and gone. He and Walden had there moment in the sun after consolidation. They didn't do much afterwards, other than fight like heck to undo what they started. Little do people realize, but Svetlik and Walden's fist pounding back in the last days of Stroman, led to Dr. Clemmons's decision to take consolidation to the board for a vote. Certainly I don't think they wanted consolidation but Dr. Clem, mons gave the squeeky wheels the grease so toi speak. Those two tried li8ke heck to undo what they started. Now we need to look at what they have done as board members? Please educate the public as to your accomplishments so there is a crystal clear picture as to why you need to be re-elected? I think Charles Jaynes is exactly what they would not want in a school board member. Personally I beleive they are shaking in their boots with the thought that a man such as Jaynes is about to be elected to the board. Someone to hold people accountable, someone who believes in a high quality education, and someone who remembers the days when VISD was respectable. Oh yeah, that's exactly why Jaynes gets my vote!

  • Since Keeling was against unconsolodation, I'm guessing that in about 5 years they'll come back to us again and tell us that we need to consolodate again! Did you all vote for Teresa G?

  • I will definitely vote KEELING !!!!
She has proven to be a great leader and keeps up with happenings of VISD. Lets see how many board members show up to the VISD Annual Employee Service Awards Banquet tomorrow evening.

  • tomtom :
I am not sure, Chandler is HIS elementary attendance zone campus and if boundaries are re-drawn...most likely it will change to the new school out on Ball Airport....another new school... so why would he care?? I still think it's the whole slap in the face... just run to see if he is elected to show everyone he has a little power to make decisions and get inside info !!

  • Some mentioned "Victoriadores" knocking on their door campaigning for Dr. Jaynes. Well........ironically enough, a friend of mine just forwarded an e-mail to me FROM Debbie Bennett Green asking everyone she knows to vote for Dr. Jaynes. How obvious can you be (re: connection w/ MHS Dance and Drill Team). All I can figure out is that drill team supporters just don't want Mrs. Keelings vote AGAINST them (i.e. the whole MTV hogwash). Even if Dr. Jaynes can't vote for issues of the like, Mrs. Keeling won't be there to vote against them (IF he wins, of course). That's the only reasoning I can come up with.

DBG's e-mail made this statement in closing:
"Remember that it is greatly appreciated that you support Dr. Charlie Jaynes but if you don't go and vote for him it does not count."

I will DEFINITELY go vote - For Keeling! I'm really tired of the ridiculous drill team issues. I'm voting for someone who puts EDUCATION and our struggling SCHOOL SYSTEM first!!!!

  • kEELING is doing a great job and now got endorsed by Bd President Walden--so where is the in fighting???

Her comments in the paper are very precise and accurate and Dr.Jaynes is so vague and generic in response. Seems to me he would have been attending board meetings and know about state mandates, title IX, and dropouts.

He delivers babies ("4,000 kids") he says. He doesn't raise them so what does he know about what happens to them. There is no tie-ins to that phrase, duh!

  • Keeling MOST DEFINITELY has my vote! She is and has always been for the betterment of our school system. Like the comment posted earlier, how will Dr. Jaynes manage his practice and have time for school board issues. It has been told to me that Dr. Jaynes has a relative who works for VISD (teacher perhaps), aside from his wife, which would exclude him from voting on any issue regarding teacher's salary. Teacher's salary is a major issue, so how can he be effective? Voting on MHS Dance and Drill Team Issues?? I'm sure he'd be excluded from that issue as well.

  • I am voting Keeling. stop sending vdores to my door soliciting the dr. please.

    April 29, 2008 at 7:37 p.m.
  • I personally feel that Keeling is right and should remain in her position. Dr. Jaynes is running because he disagrees with decisions made regarding his wife's drill team situation !! I have seen Keeling at many VISD events at elementary schools and personally, I am not sure what her full time occupation is. I just don't understand how a full time doctor will have the time to do these things and keep in touch with all that goes on. If his wife was a good teacher then maybe he might know of some of the things that go on in running a school or a classroom but to my knowledge she is not. So that's just how I feel and I will be sure to vote for Keeling.
