Mrs. J.W. Henderson, accompanied by her sister, Miss Marguerite Pickering, returned to her home in Beaumont this morning after a visit to relatives in this city.

A cottage at 403 S. Cameron St., the property of Frank Alonzo, has been moved into the 300 block on the same street.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Louis Schmidt, August 28, a girl.

The county teachers examination will be held in this city at the high school on Friday, September 4 and 5. The examination will be conducted by the new board of examiners, Superintendent A. B. Cox, Miss Allie C. Dean and Miss Nettie Waddell

Miss Ethel Schier has returned for a three-month vacation with friends in San Francisco, Los Angeles and other points of interest on the Pacific coast. She also visited friends and relatives in El Paso and San Antonio en route home.

Victoria College will present a topsy-turvy sort of educational picture Wednesday morning – all the teachers will be in the students seats and the instructors will be a group of business and industrial leaders who haven’t been in the classroom in years. Occasion will be what the Chamber of Commerce hopes will develop into an annual Business-Education Day in which some 450 teachers in the entire county will get a first-hand glimpse into the realistic world for which they are training their pupils. As set up by Morris Shattuck, Du Pont plant manager and chairman of the chamber’s education committee, the event will be in two parts, with the morning devoted to discussion by 60 men prominent in the fields of industry, utilities, retail, wholesale, finance, oil-and-gas and agriculture.

Victoria will soon get its own Crime Stoppers unit, said Bob Means, chairman of an interim committee established to develop the program in this community. “It’s going to take some work, but we want to see an organization which will represent all the ethnic groups,” he said at a luncheon meeting sponsored Wednesday by the Victoria Chamber of Commerce business council. Means said a permanent board of directors is expected to be named within the next 30 days.

Royale Airlines begins regularly scheduled air service Thursday between Victoria Regional Airport and the Continental Airline terminal at Houston Continental Airport. Royale, which will have three round-trip flights daily between Victoria and Houston and weekend two-way service between Houston and Laredo, will have a security inspection of passengers and baggage prior to boarding the airlines’s Beech 99 twin-engined turboprop aircraft.

Port O’Connor – After three years of legal maneuvers, protests and legislative actions, Texas officially gained control of most of Matagorda Island Thursday morning. But the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife will begin management under a close and critical eye of some environmental groups who fear too much emphasis is being placed on recreational use.

Officers have been installed for the newly organized Knights of Columbus chapter at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. They are Joe Nevlud and Emil Kruppa, installing officers; Leandro Gonzales, finance secretary; Joe A. Pena, grand knight; and Oscar Capistran, treasurer.
