After recording the second high score last week, Steve Dickinson surged to the top this week with an excellent 277 high game highlighting his series.
Dickinson zapped the pins in the Guys & Dolls League for games of 223, 215 and 277 to total 715 for the week.
Darren Blohm demonstrated a consistent strike ball during Red River League play to garner the second high score with games of 244, 245, and 214 for a 703 set.
Also breaking the 700 mark in the same league was Mike Stacy, who hammered the pins for a 249 high game contributing towards a 700 total.
Other scores of note for the men were by Shawn Skaaning (248-657), Mike Osterson (267), Jeff Wilson (265), Kim Blake (258), John M. Szilagyi (258), and Paul Koebrick (247).
With several leagues taking a break for the holidays, there were fewer high scores turned in this week.
Christine Speer smashed the pins during Friday Nite Mixed League action to collect the women's high score with a 607 series. Speer rolled high games of 227 and 215, which contributed towards her total.
Carri Lee also broke the 600 mark with a tremendous 245 high game, in the same league, helping towards a 601 set.
Erin Faltysek with a 577 series was another good score.
Vera Cruz Restaurant bowers for the week were T. J. Mooney 723 (Guys & Dolls) and Carri Lee 655 (Friday Nite Mixed).
Open set in Las Vegas
The 2009 U.S. Open to be held in Las Vegas has secured 17,200 teams (85,000 bowlers), which will compete from Feb. 21 through July 24. This will be the second highest number of entries for the tournament, trailing only the initial opening of the National Bowling Stadium in 1995 where 17,285 competed.
State entries due
With local bowlers enjoying the holiday season, it is easy to forget that the state tournament entry deadlines will soon be here.
The 72nd Women's State Championship, which will be held in the Dallas area has a deadline of Feb. 18.
The 77th Texas State Open deadline is Feb. 12, and will be held in the Houston area. If you have not formed your teams yet, make sure you start soon.
Local bowlers have had success in this tournament.
Please be safe during the New Year's holiday and return to league play.
If you are not a member of a league yet, there are openings available at either bowling house. Give them a call for more information.
