AUSTIN (AP) - Here is the weekly fishing report as compiled for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for Dec. 31. (Report also available on Web as www.txfishing.com.)
CENTRAL
BASTROP
Water lightly stained. Black bass are fair on pumpkinseed crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and soft plastics. Crappie are fair on minnows and blue/white tube jigs. Channel and blue catfish are slow. Yellow catfish are slow.
BUCHANAN
Water clear 62 degrees 15.60 feet low. Black bass are good on black Curb's hair jigs, watermelon red JDC curl tail grubs on jigheads, and suspending crankbaits over deeper rock piles along ledges and points in 8-20 feet. Striped bass are good drifting live shad, and jigging Spoiler Shad swim baits and Pirk Minnows near Garrett Island in 28-40 feet. White bass are slow to fair jigging Tiny Traps and Pirk Minnows. Crappie are slow on live minnows over brush piles. Channel catfish are slow. Yellow and blue catfish are slow.
CANYON LAKE
Water clear 61 degrees 11.02 feet low. Black bass are good on Texas rigged Red Shad worms, pumpkin JDC drop shot worms, and tubes on jigheads in stickups in 6-15 feet. Striped bass are fair jigging Pirk Minnows and trolling Gizz 4's or Shad Raps on down riggers over humps in the lower end of the lake in 40-60 feet. White bass are fair but small on blade baits along main lake bluffs. Smallmouth bass are very good on Tomato Red JDC grubs, smoke/red flake tubes on jigheads, and smoke drop shot worms along main lake points and bluff ledges. Crappie are slow. Channel catfish are slow. Yellow and blue catfish are slow.
COLORADO RIVER
(At Colorado Bend State Park) Water clear. Black bass are slow. Striped bass are slow. White bass are fair on minnows. Crappie are slow. Catfish are good on nightcrawlers, stinkbait, and shrimp in deep holes.
FAYETTE
Water clear 63 degrees. Black bass are slow to fair on Carolina rigged soft plastics in 15-22 feet on points. Channel and blue catfish are slow.
LBJ
Water stained 63 degrees 0.16 feet low. Black bass are fair to good on black/blue Curb's jigs and green pumpkin tubes on docks. Striped bass are slow. White bass are fair to good on silver Pirk Minnows and Spoiler Shads in the channel near the power plant. Crappie are fair on minnows in brush piles under heated docks. Channel catfish are fair on minnows and nightcrawlers. Yellow and blue catfish are slow.
SOMERVILLE
Water fairly clear 2.90 feet low. Black bass are slow. Hybrid striper are slow. White bass are slow. Crappie are fair on minnows and green and black tube jigs. Channel and blue catfish are excellent on bloodbait. Yellow catfish are slow.
TRAVIS
Water clear 64 degrees 25.31 feet low. Black bass to 3 pounds are good on chrome jigging spoons, black jigs, and smoke grubs in 28-45 feet. Striped bass to 5 pounds are fair on minnows and chrome spoons in 30-40 feet. White bass are good on minnows and chrome jigging spoons in 35-50 feet. Crappie are good on minnows and pink and white tube jigs in 38-48 feet. Channel and blue catfish to 10 pounds are fair on nightcrawlers and cut bait in 32-48 feet. Yellow catfish are slow.
SOUTH
AMISTAD
Water clear 60 degrees 1.33 feet high. Black bass are slow. Striped bass are slow. White bass are fair on slabs in 50 feet. Catfish are fair on cheesebait and stinkbait. Yellow catfish are fair on trotlines and drop lines baited with live perch. Everyone in the boat must have a Mexico fishing license (if fishing the Mexico side) whether fishing or not.
BRAUNIG
Water stained 65 degrees. Black bass are good on spinnerbaits, dark soft plastic worms, and minnows in the reeds and near the dam. Striped bass are good on liver and shad, and on spoons in deeper water. Redfish are fair on perch, shad, and silver spoons, and on tilapia, crawfish, perch, and shad near Dead Tree Point. Channel and blue catfish are excellent on liver, shrimp, perch, and shad in 20-30 feet.
CALAVERAS
Water stained 65 degrees. Black bass are good on dark soft plastic worms, live minnows, and crankbaits around reed beds and near the dam. Striped bass are good on Rat-L-Traps near the dam in 15-20 feet, and on chicken livers and shad along the shoreline. Redfish are fair on live perch, shad, tilapia, and crawfish. Crappie are slow. Channel catfish are excellent on liver, shrimp, and nightcrawlers. Blue catfish are good on liver and nightcrawlers. Yellow catfish are slow.
CHOKE CANYON
Water lightly stained 65 degrees 5.26 feet low. Black bass to 5 pounds are good on heavy jigs and large soft plastic lizards in the grass, and fair on crankbaits. White bass are fair on minnows upriver. Crappie are slow but some large ones caught on minnows. Drum are fair on live worms. Channel and blue catfish are good on punchbait in 2-7 feet. Yellow catfish are slow.
COLETO CREEK
Water clear 67 degrees (75 degrees at discharge) 3.56 feet low. Black bass are slow. Striped bass are slow. White bass are slow. Crappie are slow. Channel and blue catfish are good on live perch and bloodbait in 12-15 feet. Yellow catfish are good on trotlines baited with live perch in 12-15 feet.
FALCON
Water clear 59 degrees. Black bass are slow. Striped bass are slow. Crappie are slow. Channel and blue catfish are good on shrimp and cut bait. Yellow catfish are slow. Everyone in the boat must have a Mexico fishing license (if fishing the Mexico side) whether fishing or not.
SOUTHEAST
CONROE
Water murky 1.09 feet low. Black bass are fair on watermelon red and pumpkinseed spinnerbaits and Rat-L-Traps in 15-30 feet. Striped bass are good on minnows and white striper jigs. Crappie are fair on minnows and blue tube jigs. Catfish are good on stinkbait and frozen shrimp.
LIVINGSTON
Water fairly clear 62 degrees 0.03 feet low. Black bass are fair on crankbaits. Striped bass are slow. White bass are slow. Crappie are good on minnows. Blue catfish are good on trotlines baited with shad. Yellow catfish are slow.
SAM RAYBURN
Water lightly stained 65 degrees 6.79 feet low. Black bass are good on watermelon red and watermelon gold soft plastics, crankbaits, and Rat-L-Traps. White bass are fair on live minnows and chartreuse spoons. Crappie are fair on minnows. Bream are fair on worms. Catfish are good on stinkbait, frozen shrimp, and liver.
TOLEDO BEND
Water clear 65 degrees 3.68' low. Black bass are good on chartreuse blue and chartreuse green soft plastics, spinnerbaits, and Rat-L-Traps. Striped bass are slow. White bass are slow. Crappie are fair on minnows and blue tube jigs over brush piles. Bream are fair on worms. Channel and blue catfish are good on nightcrawlers, shrimp, and stinkbait.
