Victoria school district, along with other public schools, participated in the first statewide assessment of physical fitness this spring.

“The results of the tests will give parents important information on the health of their children,” said Richard Seiler, the district’s physical education learning facilitator, after the tests were administered.

The test measures body composition, aerobic capacity, strength, endurance and flexibility.

“They will get a report that shows a healthy range and indicate areas in which fitness and health can be improved,” Seiler said. “It’s all part of an effort to help our children be healthier.”

The schools will not be ranked or evaluated on the test results. However, the Texas Education Agency will review the results at the end of each school year and will study the relationship between fitness results and 10 data segments including academic achievement, discipline problems, obesity and substance abuse, among others.
