AUSTIN – Here is the weekly fishing report as compiled for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for July 2 (report also available on Web as www.txfishing.com.):
CENTRAL
BASTROP: Water lightly stained. Black bass are slow. Crappie are good on minnows at night. Channel and blue catfish are good on nightcrawlers and minnows. Yellow catfish are slow.
CANYON LAKE: Water clear; 78 degrees; 1.36 feet low. Black bass are fair on watermelon red Flukes, Texas rigged watermelon Whacky Sticks, and white crankbaits off points along flooded weeds and trees in 2-6 feet at first light. Striped bass are slow. White bass are slow. Smallmouth bass are good on root beer JDC grubs and craws and watermelon red tubes on ball jigheads on main lake points and ledges in 8-15 feet. Crappie are fair to good on Curb’s crappie jigs and live minnows around submerged brushpiles along channel breaklines in 8 feet upriver. Channel catfish are slow. Yellow and blue catfish are very good on juglines and trotlines upriver.
COLORADO RIVER (At Colorado Bend State Park): Water murky. Black bass are fair on minnows and spinnerbaits. Striped bass are slow. White bass are fair on minnows. Crappie are fair on minnows. Catfish are good on stinkbait and shrimp.
FAYETTE: Water clear; 90 degrees. Black bass are fair on soft plastics in 8-16 feet. Channel and blue catfish are fair on shrimp over baited holes.
TRAVIS: Water clear; 80 degrees; 6.86 feet low. Black bass to 4 pounds are good on bone topwaters, red shad worms, and smoke grubs in 12-28 feet. Striped bass are slow. White bass are fair on grubs, topwaters, and chrome jigging spoons in 10-30 feet. Crappie are slow. Channel and blue catfish to 8 pounds are good on nightcrawlers and fresh cut perch in 20-35 feet. Yellow catfish are slow.
SOUTH
AMISTAD: Water clear; 80 degrees; 17.41 feet low. Black bass are very good on Yamamoto Senkos, topwaters, swimbaits, Lucky Craft jerkbaits, and spinnerbaits. Striped bass are fair on large red fins and topwaters. White bass are slow. Crappie are slow. Catfish are fair on cheesebait. Yellow catfish are slow. Mexican fishing licenses are required to fish Mexican waters. Everyone in the boat must have a Mexican fishing license whether fishing or not. Mexican boat permits are no longer required.
BRAUNIG: Water stained; 79 degrees. Black bass are fair on spinnerbaits and dark soft plastic worms in reeds and near the dam. Striped bass are good on liver and perch off points near the pier. Redfish are excellent on perch, shad, and silver spoons. Channel and blue catfish are excellent on liver, shrimp, cutbait, and cheesebait near the dam.
CALAVERAS: Water stained; 79 degrees. Black bass are slow. Striped bass are fair on spoons and striper jigs between the dam and the crappie wall, and on chicken livers and shad along the shoreline. Redfish are excellent down rigging silver and gold spoons in 10-20 feet, on live perch and tilapia along the shoreline, and on live bait along the crappie wall. Crappie are slow. Channel catfish are excellent on liver, cheesebait, and shad. Blue catfish are excellent on liver and cutbait. Yellow catfish are slow.
CHOKE CANYON: Water lightly stained; 91 degrees; 2.08 feet low. Black bass are very good on crankbaits and large soft plastic lizards and worms. Crappie are slow. Drum are slow. Channel and blue catfish are very good on stinkbait in 5-10 feet. Yellow catfish are fair on trotlines baited with live perch.
COLETO CREEK: Water clear; 81 degrees (90 degrees at discharge); 1.60 feet low. Black bass are slow. Striped bass are slow. White bass are slow. Crappie are fair on minnows in 10-15 feet. Channel and blue catfish are fair on live perch and nightcrawlers in 12-18 feet. Yellow catfish to 14 pounds are fair on trotlines baited with live perch in 12-18 feet.
FALCON: Water stained; 80 degrees. Black bass are good on large soft plastic worms and crankbaits. Channel and blue catfish are good on cutbait and stinkbait in the river. Yellow catfish are slow. Mexican fishing licenses are required to fish Mexican waters. Everyone in the boat must have a Mexican fishing license whether fishing or not. Mexican boat permits are no longer required.
