Calhoun, Cuero, Rice Consolidated, Refugio and Shiner earned at least a share of their respective district football titles last season and they’re expected to do so again.
The Sandcrabs, Gobblers, Raiders, Bobcats and Comanches are picked as the projected winners of their respective districts by the coaches in a preseason poll conducted by the Texas High School Coaches Association.
Calhoun is the favorite in District 30-4A, Cuero is picked to win District 28-3A, Rice Consolidated is the favorite in District 26-2A, Refugio is picked to win District 30-2A and Shiner is the favorite to win District 27-1A.
Cuero, Refugio and Shiner won the outright district title in their districts last season. Calhoun shared its district title with Beeville and Gregory-Portland and Rice Consolidated shared the district title with Edna.
Last season, Cuero advanced to the Division II semifinals, Rice Consolidated reached the Division II semifinals and Refugio made it to the Division II quarterfinals.
Converse Judson is the pick to win District 27-5A, which includes Memorial. The Rockets advanced to the Division I state final last season.
The other district favorites in districts including Advocate-area teams are defending Class 4A, Division I state champion Lamar Consolidated in District 23-4A, Needville in District 26-3A, Navarro in District 28-2A, Hitchcock in District 29-2A and Falls City in District 31-1A.
