Daric Miller watched his team through the fence in the dugout for the first two innings.
He peered through, patiently waiting for a chance to play as his Victoria Northeast 11- and 12-year-old All-Stars scored five runs in the first inning and before his coach called on him in the second inning.
He didn’t let the idle time get him down.
When let loose, Miller drew a walk and then delivered a three-run home run to cap off an 11-0 win for the Northeast 11- and 12-year-olds over Bloomington on Friday at Elder Field.
“We don’t call it subbing, we call it a rotation,” said Miller who hit six homers in the regular season. “It never bothers me to come in off the bench. I just want to win. It hit the sweet part of the bat and I knew it was gone.”
The win sealed the Area II District 27 championship for Northeast and sets up a meeting with Northwest which went undefeated through the Area I bracket. The two teams play tonight at 7 p.m. at Elder Field. Northwest needs one win to advance, while Northeast needs a win tonight to force a deciding game for the District 27 championship on Sunday at 7 p.m. in Cuero.
“It’s going to be fun,” Miller said. “We have to beat them. We beat them last year and the year before.”
Bloomington’s season ends after picking up wins over Victoria Southeast on Wednesday and Northeast on Thursday. Friday’s game was the third meeting for the two teams this week, and had Northeast’s leadoff hitter eager to put the rivals away.
“I was really ready to beat them and move on,” said Jonathan Ortega who drew two walks and scored two runs. “The beginning pumped our team up.”
Northeast jumped out quickly and batted through its lineup in the first inning. Jerry Vasquez and Trent Wiley each had RBI for the team, while Tyler Stocker drove in two runs with a double down the third baseline.
Northeast finished the Area II District 27 championship game with nine hits as a team, and with eight different players scoring runs.
“We just needed to hit the ball and work as a team,” said Josh Cantu who started the game in right field. “We were confident and played defense good.”
The defensive effort from the team led to a four pitcher no-hitter for Northeast. Hunter Perkins started the game and was relieved by Ortega, Sam Blano and Vasquez.
“No runs were scored and the defense helped out a lot,” Perkins said. “We were ready to win and move on. We couldn’t let down just because we were ahead. We just have to keep the sticks going and we can beat anyone.”
Derek Folmer, Daniel Casares and Aaron Lopez all reached base for Bloomington with walks.

July 8, 2008 at 9:50 a.m.Sunshine **Keep Up The Good Work and Thank you for keeping it real.**..
RR00 your something else...hehehhehe
Get a life and stay the heck out of Bloomington's
and if you have issues with Bloomington, get a magazine rack ..later..
And a lot that disagree with you
July 8, 2008 at 8:21 a.m.It was not the case this year. Leave the past in the past and get over it. I read you comment when you said "my sister said" which means hear say, idiot.
July 7, 2008 at 7:05 p.m.I think you were right once before....
July 7, 2008 at 4:09 p.m.Several of you are on here talking about what so and so said or did. Once again, it is hear say. The kids do not deserve the type of negative comments that are coming from some of you. The Advocate is here to "cover" surrounding counties and things that are happening; regardless of where you are from. This whole post has gotten way out of hand. It was simply started to find out why the lack of coverage once all of a sudden when Bloomington won. Differnet races and pregnancies have nothing to do with it. RedRage- start that stuff when it is relevant to the story/post.
July 7, 2008 at 3:56 p.m.Contrary to popular belief ,Hispanic is not a race.
July 7, 2008 at 11:26 a.m.I coached-managed over 20 years at all levels of youth baseball and Bloomington fans and players were never a problem. There were competitive bunch, and unlike any other community the talent pool varied every five years or so. I do remember Victoria being the bad guys at the Cuero,Karnes City,Kennedy hosted tournaments because of our bigger city arrogance.
I believe this year Bloomington is upset ,but isn't this the time of the year for a letter to the editor from a disgruntled parent, because their son did not make the All-Star team?
Don't make this one incident about race or a bad neighboring community.
Guess what?? what majority of race plays for Bloomington?..
July 7, 2008 at 10:53 a.m.Chinese?? So what kind of people are you refering to? There is nothing but latinos/hispanics there ..Give me a break. and if their are any Anglos well guess what..they are half Latinos also.. they may have a white surname but probably their mothers are hispanic..Give it up already.. so you think Bloomington is Ghetto.. and so are their children that play LL baseball..but you know what they do raise their children dignity and morals but they also teach them to not get runned over by people who tell them they are Ghetto..they also teach them to have pride in what they do and if they are gonna do it... to do it well.. and do it with Ganas..y con todo su corrazon. they are All HEART baby!!!
NOT ALL the parents are like that though... donot base your opinion on a few to ALL..There are still a bunch of them that do have manners and can hold their own in a public place and would never lower themselves to making a spectacle of themselves or of their families. There are some that would NOT like have attention drawn to them. (sheer out of self respect ..pleaseeee) but then you have THOSE like in every other place you go to. you know the kind.
July 7, 2008 at 10:40 a.m.A friend of mine from out of town sent his kid to a baseball camp. While there, the kid struck up a friendship with a kid from Bloomington and they got to be big pals. That spring, the local Little League played a tournament in Victoria against Bloomington. During the game between the two "pals" teams, the Bloomington team cursed and slammed the mothers, fathers and all the family of the other teams kids. And after the game, threatened the kids from opposing sides at will without being called down (and in fact encouraged by) Bloomington adults. In fact, my friend called down a couple of Bloomington kids, and was threatened by several Bloomington parents (idle trash talk, as expected).
My friends kid was crushed that his "pal" would run crap at him like that. When he asked "why would you do that?" the reply was that he was a "pinche gringo and amounted to less than s...t to them."
An enduring image to remind us all of Bloomington.
July 7, 2008 at 10:24 a.m.You know I am so tired of you proclaiming about the pregancy rate at BHS.. What is your beef with that..why do you think only Bloomington girls are capable of doing it?? For your info there are a few around the area and in your neighborhood that probably would do it way faster than they would.. I dont get you, you are a typical latino/hispanic .I guess it is true what Coach Hodie Garcia said about the hispanic Race.. They are like crabs if you put a bunch of them in a can they will crawl upon each other to get to the top.. meaning they use each others to advance oneself because hispanics/latinos put their own race down cause they rather be something else that they are not..and will never be UNITED..
July 7, 2008 at 9:04 a.m.You know I am so sick and tired of Victoria telling Bloomington what they think of them.. ..let me tell you all something.. we have student from Bloomington High School..graduated from all part of the world.. we have one student that attended Cornell University in New York and finished in Construction Science..we have a state full of Texas Aggies that graduated with honors and SOME have their Master (not white, baby)... latinos/hispanics!! We Also have a truckload of Latino/Hispanic Chemical engineers, Mechanical engineers Computer engineers with degrees from The University of Texas @ aTx and Texas a&m in College Station and Kingsville..and many many teachers majored in Math and history and English..we have Ag Majors degreed twice with honors from Texas A&M College Station, Texas (not Anglo), Hispanic/Latino.... we have a ex student of Bloomington high school working with Condelesa Rice, baby...and graduated from St. Mary's University , also hispanic... Plus I could sit here and name all that have gone to college and been successful people from Bloomington..so, whose Ghetto now? I guess these children raise themselves without their Ghetto parents. They must be doing something right ..dont you think?Ohh plus, we have a slew of military personel (ex BHS graduate/college graduates students) in Iraq/Afghanistan as we speak trying to keep "those people" from coming over here trying to get ghetto on your butt. So, I would think twice before you call someone Ghetto... ..we wouldnt want to resort to name calling.. nah I wouldn't lower myself to that level...
July 6, 2008 at 10:18 p.m.Huck- sounds like a plan!! Scout, you are dead on. It helps to know that there are others out there that see the good; even though the little town is always in the wrong.
July 6, 2008 at 9:41 p.m.Johnhancock- go out there and make some changes. There are plenty of people that see things your way, but it doesn't mean these kids don't deserve the coverage. They have something to be proud of and if the Advocate can't step up, then I'm here to inform everyone what a great job these young men, coaches and parents did.
Bloomington needs to quit whining about the coverage. I'm from Bloomington, but there are more problems in our area to worry about. And until the community wakes up and incorporates itself, Bloomington shouldn't expect much from Vic. We need to quit relying on Victoria because the residents there don't give a dam$ about us. A movement need to get started to incorporate, so we can dictate how our town is run!
July 6, 2008 at 8:55 p.m.RR- your negative input is off basis. You are not even living in this area. Your education must not be insignificant because you flip and flop for both sides. PLEASE don't represent Victoria. Bloomington has always been postive in thier image. I know 1st hand. You appear to have little man syndrome with a big truck. sorry.
I have dealt w/ issues on both sides of the table and trust me it comes from all eco-social backgrounds, baby.
July 6, 2008 at 6:45 p.m.Hey Sunshine ..Amen to that sweety.. cause you know I have actually thought about putting up the money...to make a team... hire the coaches I want and tell them who I want to play in what position and of coarse the pitcher would be one of my family members (of coarse) .. and just come and visit once in awhile to see how the team is doing...sounds like plan dont you think??..will 3000.00 take care of it call me..ohh remember the saying... money talks and something something walks...hhehhehehehhe
July 6, 2008 at 6:30 p.m.If you're not there, then all you have to go on is hear say; whether it be from your sister or someone else. Victoria is just to blame because they always fall into, if not start mouthing first. They are no better then the other visiting team. I have been there the past three years so I can honestly say it has been descent. Of course the blame is always going to fall on the small town. No one thinks they should be able yo compete with all your daddy run teams.
July 6, 2008 at 5:22 p.m.Oh and you live there, right? That's how you know so much. I don't even live there and I know more than you. Before you try putting others down, why don't you step p to the plate and try to improve things. And grow up while your at it. We are talking about 11-12 yr olds playing in a little league championship and you try to blame them on how things are today. Take your support elsewhere. Not even Victoria kids need your negative impact. Did you not see the photo in the paper where players from bith sides where having a good time together after the game?
July 6, 2008 at 12:54 p.m.Redrage and tstorm- i will excuse your idiotic comments. Ghetto- look what Victoria is turning into. For your info RRAGE, I remember when an irrate Victoria parent met me in the parking lot because my girl played better than his son and he didn't think she should be out there. There's some ghetto Victoria mess for you since you seem to know so much. They're everywhere; get over it.
July 6, 2008 at 12:05 p.m.THuckleberry and Tiggerfan06- we appreciate your support. The kids, coaches and parents worked hard to be winners and they do deserve to be recognized. But once again, if you're not on a Daddy coached Victoria team, you can forget about it being in the paper. At least we have Newscenter 25 to pick up the slack. Good job team.
Dont worry its always been that way "The meek shall inherit the earth"....get used to being the adopted one.. Bloomington you know you did excellent and you alway have and you always will.. I always say.. latinos are born with a ball in their hand.. Keep up the fantastic work... and parents you are doing an excellent job and teach them to be humble and do it in a sportman like manner.. ..God Bless you all..
July 5, 2008 at 3:37 p.m.Once again no comments from the Bloomington. Just shows how the advocate works. It's not like they didn't have the same opportunity to talk to Bloomington coaches/players. I hardly doubt they would declined to comment. I'm sure they would have said they are proud of their season. Not only was there no comment from Bloomington, there wasn't even a story of Thursday's game when Bloomington WON and forced another game. Thank you Newscenter 25 for covering Thursday's game. To Bloomington: keep your heads up. You guys had an outstanding season.
