Editor, the Advocate:

In the Sunday paper from June 22, there was an article that caught my eye. The article asks “Is everything spinning out of control?” and “A world gone haywire” it read. People are quoted saying, “It’s pretty scary.” Natural disasters here and more intense around the world with flooding and earthquakes; food is becoming scarcer and more expensive; sports heroes suspected of cheating. “Why the vulnerability?” the article asks. “Surely people know how to fix problems now.”

Let me share some hope and joy with you. “Let not your heart be troubled,” we have been told. We have been given a warning by Someone years ago of all these things that are happening with such intensity and rapidity in our time. Matthew 24 warns us of famines, earthquakes in different places. Luke 21 warns of distress upon the earth, of nations in perplexity (surely people know how to fix this); sea and waves roaring; signs in the sun, moon and stars; men’s hearts failing them for fear after those things that are coming on the earth. “This gospel shall be preached to all the world and then the end shall come” (Matthew 24:14). Via Internet and satellite, the gospel is reaching all around the world like never before, going where people can’t enter.

Then the great hope when He says, “And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up and lift up your heads for your redemption draws near” (Luke 21:27). He’s coming, are you ready?
