I think that if those two young kids who got sentenced 40 years for burning down a building is fair, why is Ratcliff getting off on probation. I think that he should get 80 years.

On immigration: Why do you people have such a big problem with immigration? These people are trying to come across the border to find a better life. They are taking jobs for a little bit of money, because there isn’t any money in Mexico. If you would go across the border, you would find out how much money you would get for an American dollar. Please quit all this anarchy. This is not right.

When I picked my paper up this morning, I was outraged. It is just the good ol’ boy system working here in Victoria again. Ratcliff should be doing jail time, not getting away with what he did to that boy. We all as citizens should stand up and make this plea deal go away.

I do not think that Ratcliff should have gotten off.
He should have gotten jail like anybody else.

This Michael Ratcliff plea bargain: No, I think that he should have gone to trial. Should have exposed everyone that was involved.

Until God’s final judgment, then we will know what fairness is in Victoria.

I opine, Ratcliff plea was fair if they give pedophiles and child rapists the same kind of plea.

No, I definitely do not agree with Ratcliff getting a plea bargain. I take care of children after sexual abuse. He needs to be in jail, or he deserves to be. His sentence could not be even long enough for this. I feel that he is guilty. That is not fair. He should be treated like everyone else. He has devastated children by doing what he has done.

Absolutely not.
The plea deal was not fair.
If he did the crime he should do the time.
All the man is getting is a slap on the wrist. That is Victoria for you.

Ratcliff should be treated just like everyone else. A plea is just terrible, after what he did, how he did it, where he did it. Why can’t the judges who are put into position in Victoria ever do their jobs? When something comes around, we have to hire or get somebody from somewhere else.

The Ratcliff plea deal was far from fair. The visiting judge and district attorney didn’t do justice at all. What will this do to sexual assault cases in the future. Is the city and county paying for Ratcliff’s defense?

Well ya know, in a perfect world he would go to trial BUT it is the prosecutor who offered the plea citing lack of substantial evidence & a not exactly credible "victim" (his words i believe). I am aware that many are displeased, but until the judge decides whether he accepts the plea or sends it back, we must attempt to move on.
July 9, 2008 at 10:58 a.m.hope he doesnt except it everyone deserves a fair trial if he is innocent let the court and jury decide if it were anyone eles off the street they would be on trial he should be no different
July 9, 2008 at 10:11 a.m.debrakay, the judge has not accepted the plea agreement yet. He is still deliberating & is supposed to render his verdict on 8-15-08. I assume if he accepts it, he was thinking both sides agreed to it so who is he to say no. I'm sure the prosecutor could've gotten more if he had tried but he didn't, blame him.
July 9, 2008 at 10:02 a.m.what in the world is the judge thinking about on the ratcliff case?????He is a creep in office. He is in bad health AND??He lost his car AND?? so he can get away with breaking the law?? can we all break the law and get away with it or is it only for the people in office that are suppose to be the ones we look up to? Mr Tyler is the only one who had enough guts to stand up to the crooked people we have in office. You keep on Mr Tyler get the rest of them out of office too its about time we got some guts in the upper section thats why so many people that are innocent in jail and the real crooks on the outside
