A shower early Wednesday afternoon filled Victoria streets with standing water and motorists rode in the centermost lanes to avoid the deep puddles.
The Victoria Regional Airport recorded .15 of an inch for Wednesday, but more could have fallen across Victoria, said Beth Tilley, a meteorology intern at the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi.
Rain has fallen all but two days this month, July 2 and 7, providing some relief from a drier than normal May and June.
“It’s pretty much a typical July so far,” Tilley said. “It’s hard to tell yet about how average it is.”
As of 2 p.m. Wednesday, Victoria had received 1.29 inches of rain, a little less than half the month’s average, according to the National Weather Service.
Last July was a record-breaking month for rainfall. The total peaked at 20.34 inches.
This month’s rain was the result of sea-breeze-activated showers and isolated thunderstorms, Tilley said.
But the chance of rain will dwindle toward the week’s end.
Forecasters were calling for a 30 percent chance of rain today and Friday, with only a 10 percent chance either night.
“We’re going back into a dry spell for a while,” Tilley said.
