Houston Post: The Houston Post baseball team will leave next Sunday morning for Victoria, where they will play the Victoria team a series of three games on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Victoria has a good bunch of ball players together. These games should be warm ones, as the Post team has gained the reputation of being a hard one to defeat.

When Our Lady of Victoria Catholic Church is dedicated at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, everything in it will be brand new - including the pastor. He is the Rev. Henry O. Rolf, whose appointment by Archbishop Robert E. Luceny of San Antonio as Catholic parish north of Red River Street Becomes effective on the eve of the church’s formal opening. Father Rolf’s first act on receiving official notification of his initial pastorate was the stress that the general public - as well as parishioners of Our Lady of Victory - will be welcome at an open house from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday in the new two-story rectory at 1309 E. Mesquite St.. “I’d like as many as possible to be there,” he said, “To help start off the new church and its new pastor on an informal, but grand note of friendship.”

In the 10 years since his death, Lady Bird Johnson continued to live in the shadow of her husband. But now, at age 70, she says she is ready to lay down those burdens, and begin a life of her own. In a recent interview with the Dallas Times Herald, Mrs. Johnson said she was proud of Lyndon Johnson and ignores criticism of him, including recent biographies portraying him as a womanizing, power-hungry politician. “I lived that life,” she told the Times Herald. “I know that man. I don’t have the need to see the second-hand story.
A Super Lowrider and Custom Car Show and dance will be held from 1 p.m. to midnight Sunday at Sun Valley. The show will feature lowriders and custom cars from Houston, Laredo, El Paso, San Antonio, Dallas and Los Angeles. Cameros, pickups, four-wheel drives, hot rods and Corvettes will also be on display. There will be a “bad girls” contest, a dance contest and a lowrider hopping contest.
Mid Coast Logging and Perforating of Victoria was officially declared state champion with Big Spring Bowl-A-Rama Sunday Class-A in The Texas Women’s Bowling Association state tournament in San Angelo. Members of the team, which bowled a 2,683, included Lola Parkinson, Betty Zoe, Juanita Rigamonti, Merle Cattan and Glenda Bennett.
