Victoria’s streets didn’t mimic bombs bursting in air or rockets’ red glare this Fourth of July.

Firefighters responded to 13 reports of exploding fireworks, down from 31 last year, Fire Marshal John Bradley said. Bradley and fire investigators confiscated fewer fireworks than in previous years, he said.

“I only picked up one small bag,” Bradley said. “We usually have 10 bags or more.”

Bradley credits Victorians for the decrease.

“I’m just hoping people are paying more attention to the laws,” he said. He wasn’t sure what contributed to the lawfulness, but said recent burn bans might have reminded people how dangerous fire can be.
