City Council Proceedings: The petition of A. Schneider et al, asking that a light be placed on the corner of Common and Guadalupe Streets was read. Moved and carried that the same be granted and that the Light Committee be instructed to attend to same. Moved and carried that the Secretary be instructed to write to the Victoria Light Company and ask why it has not complied with the orders of the Council relative to placing new lights on the streets as requested. Application of J.H. Wertheimer for sewer connection was real. The petition of R.G. Groce and sixty others in regard to driving cows to and from the pastures and allowing same to trespass on sidewalks was read. Moved and carried that the Marshal be instructed to enforce the ordinance more rigidly.

Miss Carolyn Tasin and Miss Mildred Holly are vacationing this week in Monterey Park, Calif., where they are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Van Rekom, former Victorians now residing in that city Miss Tasin and Miss Holly also are visiting with friends in San Francisco during their vacation.
Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Collins and children, Evelyn, Donna, John, David, Clark, Curtis and Carol, have returned from a 2,000-mile vacation trip which included a stopover for several days at a ranch near Alpine and a tour of the Big Bend Country. During a stay at a tourist resort of Ruidoso, N.M., they visited the ranger station atop a 10,000 foot mountain peak in the area. They also visited the Carlsbad Caverns and other points of interest in New Mexico before returning to Texas and Victoria.

A collage of children’s drawings went on display this weekend in the educational building of Victoria Zoo Blended into a permanent mural by local artist Neldene Matusevich, the drawings all are youngsters’ impressions of animals at the zoo. The mural was a project of Victoria Arts Council’s arts in public places committee in cooperation with the zoo.
While the National Weather Service recorded 2.07 inches of rain Saturday, bringing a four-day total to 9.08 inches, the amount of rainfall received around the county varied slightly. As of Saturday evening, a report of 12 inches for the four-day total came from the eastern part of the county. The Schroeder Mercantile reported more than two inches Saturday, and around seven inches for the total. Susie Motal, who lives in the southwestern part of the county, said she had received 11.7 inches since Tuesday.
Cheryl Dreier, left, daughter of Louise Dreier and Randolph Dreier, and a May graduate of Stroman High School, and Joy Dunglinson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Colin Dunglinson, and a May graduate of Victoria High School are contestants in the Miss Victoria Pageant to be held Aug. 9.
An Installation Mass and dinner will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday to install newly elected officers of the Victoria Knights of Columbus. the Revs. Eustace Hermes and Donald Ruppert, chaplain, will celebrate the Mass at KC Hall. New officers to be installed include Daniel Klesel, grand knight; Vic Cantu, deputy grand knight; Tommy Dornak, chancellor; Daniel Jalufka, treasurer; Dell Machac, warden; Lee Ray De Los Santos, recorder; and George Wenzel, advocate.
