CUERO – About half of the 33 people wanted on drug-related charges here were arrested Wednesday night.
Police arrested 17 people and seized five vehicles during the warrant roundup, Chief Glenn Mutchler said. Police had investigated some of the suspects for as long as a year, he said.
The department conducts such roundups yearly, but usually they happen during the day, Mutchler said.
“We thought it would work out better this time at night,” he said. Starting at 8 p.m., 12 officers hunted for suspects in 43 drug-related crimes, he said.
The arrests continued well into Thursday afternoon.
Justice of the Peace Peggy Mayer is expected to arraign many of those arrested today. Police are still compiling a list of the arrested.
One of the challenges in such operations is not letting suspects know they’re about to get nabbed, Mutchler said.
“We did this very quietly last night,” he said. “We stayed off the radio.”

hjm368 I agree with you a 100%!!
July 19, 2008 at 7:45 p.m.Unfortunatley drugs and drug dealers and users exist everywhere! What sucks is that the people involved with drugs are to lazy to get a real job and support themselves and children correctly. Having fancy things and living off the government, while hurting others is just so much easier!
July 19, 2008 at 6:43 p.m.oops sorry on that!

Come on! you want to bring that up again! I guess i will never live that one down!
No, I do know drugs exist on my side of town!
Texasmom, I am not the one who made that comment...I was commenting on her comment/question. If you see the first sentence is in quotes....meaning not my words.....i also have my ......leading to my question of the posters statement/question. I am neither niave nor stupid I realize there are probably more drugs per capita in Victoria than in San Antonio or Houston. You on the other hand refuses to believe that any of it happens on the north side.
July 19, 2008 at 3:30 p.m.LOL RedRage!

Don't be fooled Cuero is not a nice clean safe small town as some people think (or as some people want others to think).
July 19, 2008 at 11:21 a.m.When the names of those arrested or published do some research and see how many or repeat offenders. Then let's wait and see how many of those arrested are let go without any punishment because of who they are or who was paid off
"Am I glad we don't have this many drug suspect or users here in Victoria..........".....I dunno are you?
July 18, 2008 at 4:02 p.m.HUH....Yeah you do have that many drug suspects in Victoria if not more!! Just becuase the police are too busy with domestic disturbances does not mean that Victoria does not have a drug problem! Most of the drugs that come into Cuero are from Victoria!!!!!
July 18, 2008 at 10:47 a.m.Am I glad we don't have this many drug suspect or users here in Victoria..........
