Editor, the Advocate:

In the beginning, God instituted the family — one man, one woman for life.

He told us to be fruitful and multiply.

God’s word tells us to be responsible for our children, teach them to honor their father and mother and keep God’s commandments. Multiply this family by several million and you have strong nation under God, with liberty and justice for all.

Contrast this: the state of the union in America today. Our government says what happens behind closed doors between consenting adults is no one else’s business. Lawmakers legalized adultery, fornication and abortion and they are working to make sodomy legal and acceptable. They gave special protection to homosexuals and forced employers to bring them into their organizations.

The courts issued instructions to remove the Ten Commandments from schools, and they relaxed the interpretation of pornography. The ACLU has fought for “anything goes.” Our movies and television programs shout the Lord’s name in vain and glorify illicit sex and violence.

The breakdown in the American family is costing taxpayers millions and is exacting a terrible human cost in terms of abused wives, neglected children, poverty, crime, dope, dropouts, AIDS and on and on.

Proverbs 14:12 tells us that there is a way that seems right to man but in the end brings destruction. Numbers 32:23 warns that you can be sure your sins will find you out. This does not mean that someone else will learn about your sin. It means that you cannot escape the consequences of your sin. I am afraid that God will get tired of our rebellion and release his wrath upon us.

Leviticus 25:17-18 says, “But you shall fear your God; for I am the Lord your God. You shall thus observe my statues, keep my judgments, so as to carry them out; that you may live securely on the land.”

You see, it does matter what you do behind closed doors. The choices you make affect us all.

Fred James

  • Chica...Yeah, politicians push laws denying equal opportunity to some and call it their christian duty, but they are not being true to their oath to support and defend the Constitution. This is where the Supreme Court has to step in and slap them down once in a while. The problem is that many of the supremes are letting politics and/or religion get in the way of the Constitution.

  • but, isn't that just what our politicians are doing when they base the laws they want or support based on their Christian beliefs instead of what is already in the Constitution?

    i.e. Abortion, gay rights, etc?

  • Mr. James...I would remind you that laws in THIS country must pass muster under the Constitution -- NOT the bible. You are certainly free to live your life the way you see fit and to worship as you wish and to tell people they are wrong. What you do not have the right to do in this country is to force people to accept your beliefs. You have the right to speak but you do not have the right to be heard. If you start telling people how they should be living their lives and how you think they are wrong, be prepared for a quick pop in the nose -- you know, the one you are putting into other peoples business. There was an old Hank Williams song that applies: "Mind your own business, mind your own business. If you mind your own business then you won't be minding mine."

  • Here we go again. Another Christian blaming their wows on the “Evil of Man” created by Individual rights provided in the Constitution of the United States of America.

What part of this can you folks not figure out?
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof”

You all just wait until the percentage of Muslims in America reach the same as some of the European countries. All of you who “Thump” your Bible and point to the errors of America will be saying “Wait a minute, we don’t want Islamic Religious Law we were meaning Christian Religious Law”

All of you better March to keep religion out of Civil Law!!!!!

When was that beginning? Are you referring to 4004BC?

  • Would you rather the U.S. be a theocracy? Because we all know how well those turn out.

The sooner you realize not everyone is a Christian, the better off everyone will be.

I know how irritating it must be to see our government awarding privileges to such "unworthy" citizens that don't share your ideals. God forbid our country strive to provide equality for everyone, even those not of the Christian faith!

Should we deny employment and aid to those who don't go to church as well? Why stop there, we might as well ship them all off somewhere, the Buddhists, the Islamic, the Wiccans, the homosexuals.

You people won't stop imposing your beliefs on everyone else, will you?

And yes, what goes on between two consenting adults is surely no one else's business but their own, unless you want the government to start throwing people in jail for missing church and making citizens install surveillance cameras in their bedrooms.

I worry about when you nuts will die out.

  • Mr. James, have you been asking your neighbors what they do behind the privacy of their doors and if you did, how is this affecting you?

    July 18, 2008 at 3:16 p.m.
  • That 94° heat getting to you Mr. James... Kind of stretching the truth a little.....

And they say this is a do-nothing Congress...They did all this , and I was not aware of it...LOL
