Four junior high school students will leave Victoria today for a Methodist youth camp at Mount Wesley in Kerrville. Those attending will be Marilyn Haas, Shirley Terry, Donna Jo Terry and Martha Finley. Campers will include young people form the San Angelo, McAllen and Corpus Christi District of the Methodist churches. The camp will close July 26. The girls will choose their own interest groups as well as take part in the regular camping and religious activities.

F. C. Haynes of Victoria, and her granddaughter, Alxia V. Morgan of Beaumont, have returned to their respective homes after attending the NAACP convention held in New Orleans. Among speaker they heard at the convention were Sen. John Glenn of Ohio, former astronaut and presidential aspirant; former Vice President Walter Mondale, who also is eyeing the presidency, and Vice President George Bush.

A change order that would revise construction plans for a bridge on Nursery Drive from poured headwalls to driven pilings will be considered by the Victoria County Commissioners Court when it meets at 9:30 a.m. Friday.

The city of Victoria has been approved for a $217,000 Community Development Block Grant under the new federal jobs program, to be used for improvements in a number of city parks, and will pursue efforts to obtain matching funds from the state to double the size of the program. Officer of both U.S. Sen. Lloyd Bentsen and U. S. Rep. William N. Patman notified local media Wednesday of the approval Emily Braswell, project director for the city, said confirmation also had come from the San Antonio regional office of the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Seadrift – The crossroads area may be a far cry from Al-Jubail, Saudi Arabia, but 31 Saudis are determined to like it just fine here. The 31 will be involved in a training program at Union Carbide for 7-14 months before starting work at a new plant in a new city.

Art Garfunkel and Paul Simon rehearsed at the Akron Rubber Bowl recently prior to opening their 19-city tour at the Ohio facility Tuesday night. An estimated 37,000 fans turned out to see the duo which disbanded in 1970 at the height of their popularity.

Edna – Twenty-one illegal aliens including three females - one of whom was pregnant - and a three-year-old child, were taken into custody here between 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. Jackson County Deputy Sheriff Ben Ashley said that while on his way to Ganado Tuesday evening, he noticed a parked van on the shoulder of U.S. Highway 59 about one mile southwest of Lake Texana. He said it was parked in a northerly direction, and that about 100 yards from it, he noticed eight Hispanic males walking toward the lake.
