Army Pvt. John Rey Acosta graduated from basic combat training, Fort Jackson, S.C. in July. He trained with the Second Battalion, 60th Infantry Regiment, Company C. He is stationed at Fort Jackson and will continue his AIT training for 12 weeks. Acosta is the husband of Veronica Acosta and the son of John G. and Alice G. Acosta all of Victoria. Acosta attended Memorial High School.

Army Pvt. George E. Alvarez has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, S. C. recently. Alvarez is the son of Jaunita Alvarez of Victoria.

Navy Fireman Dong U. Doan aboard USS Dubuque recently participated in a community relations project in Phuket, Thailand while assigned to the Peleliu Expeditionary Strike Group. Doan is the son of Joan and Tran Doan of Palacios and a 2006 graduate of Palacios High School.

Navy Lt. Jay W. Clemons recently returned from a five-month deployment to Iraq while assigned to Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit 6, home based at Naval Weapons Station Charleston, S.C. During the deployment, Clemons’s unit protected coalition forces against improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The team conducted more than 1,869 missions. Clemons is a 1990 graduate of Victoria High School.

Cadet Andrew Rory Murphy graduated from Valley Forge Military College with an Associate of Arts Degree in Business and has also been commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Murphy will be completing his Bachelors Degree at Texas State University, San Marcos while he serves in the Texas National Guard. Murphy is the son of Don and Shelly Murphy of Victoria and grandson of James and Carol Willis of Borger, Texas.

Navy Seaman Apprentice Lauren E. Mutchler recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Mutchers is a 2007 graduate of Cuero High School and is the daughter of Laura J. Mutchler of Victoria and Glenn E. Mutchler of Cuero.

Navy Airman John M. Ricks recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Ricks is the son of Mariette and stepson of Roman Combs of El Campo and a 2003 graduate of El Campo High School.
