PHOENIX, AZ - Victoria’s Miranda Orr earned her first paycheck as a professional golfer in just her second event.
Orr, who played golf at Memorial and Texas A&M, finished third last week at the Cactus Tour’s event at ASU Karsten in Tempe, Ariz. Orr posted rounds of 74-71-75 to finish at 220, seven shots behind the leader.
“It feels great to have some success doing what I love to do, I’m getting paid for what I used to do for free, what’s better than that? I Just feel so blessed to have the opportunity to play and thank God for putting me in this place,” Orr said following the tournament.
The Cactus Tour is a developmental tour for female professional golfers who aspire to play on the LPGA. With tournaments only in the greater Phoenix area, players are able to move their lives to one location and play without the travel expense. The tour is year round and run by Bruce Condon a PGA Class A professional and began three years ago.
Caryn Wilson and Sarah Tiller tied for first with a three-day total of 213. Wilson made a 25-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to take the title and $2,400 leaving Tiller with the $1,300 second place prize.
Orr’s third place finish was good for $1,000, with Jamie Stevenson and Brittney Hayes tying for fourth with a 225 total and $800 each.
Orr plans to play in four more events this summer before starting her job in Houston with Deloitte Financial Advisory Services.
