AUSTIN – Here is the weekly fishing report as compiled for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for July 23 (report also available on Web as www.txfishing.com.):

CENTRAL

COLORADO RIVER (at Colorado Bend State Park): Water stained. Black bass are slow. Striped bass are slow. White bass are slow. Crappie are slow. Catfish are excellent on trotlines baited with perch, and from the bank on rod and reel baited with perch.

FAYETTE: Water clear; 95 degrees. Black bass are fair on spinnerbaits early and late. Channel and blue catfish are good on Black Saltys and cut shad over baited holes in the trees.

SOUTH

BRAUNIG: Water stained; 83 degrees. Black bass are fair on crankbaits and dark soft plastic worms in reeds. Striped bass are excellent on liver and shad off points, and down rigging silver and gold spoons near the jetty and dam. Redfish are excellent on perch, tilapia, shad, and silver spoons, and downrigging near the jetty and dam.

CALAVERAS: Water stained; 83 degrees. Black bass are good on dark soft plastic worms, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits over reed beds. Striped bass are good on spoons and striper jigs near the dam and the crappie wall in 15-20 feet, and on chicken livers and shad along the shoreline. Redfish are excellent down rigging silver and gold spoons and live bait along the crappie wall and the dam in 10-20 feet, on live perch and tilapia along the shoreline, and on live bait along the crappie wall. Crappie are slow.

CHOKE CANYON: Water lightly stained; 92 degrees; 2.92 feet low. Black bass are fair on small white/chartreuse spinnerbaits, shallow running crankbaits, and pumpkin Whacky Sticks with chartreuse tails along main lake points in 2-6 feet early. White bass are slow. Crappie are slow. Channel catfish are very good on live bait in 4-15 feet. Yellow and blue catfish are very good on live bait upriver.

COLETO CREEK: Water clear; 88 degrees (96 degrees at discharge); 2.50 feet low. Black bass are slow. Striped bass are slow. White bass are slow. Crappie are slow. Channel and blue catfish are slow. Yellow catfish to 6 pounds are fair on trotlines baited with live perch.
