Editor, the Advocate:

Why is it that the major streets in the town of Victoria are in need of repair, the infrastructure needs repair and the traffic signals need upgrading? We have a city council that chooses to spend the taxpayers’ money on unrelated business. For example, it sets aside money for the defense of four high profile individuals, and also sets money aside for a hike and bike trail. These are just two things that come to mind, but, as I am saying, the city council has its own agenda and not one for the people.

D. W. Schmidt

  • How does that work? If Ure's attorney is not being paid by the city, do the other 3 guys get to split the $200,000? Was it limited to $50,000 per person, or $200,000 total? I read somewhere that one of the attorneys (I think it was Armstrong's) charges a flat fee of $55,000. If this is the case, does he personally have to cough up the extra $5,000?

  • Well, Willie...what do you expect? Probably 98% of the posters on here are not informed or educated on what they respond to.

  • Don't be a dumb Schmidt. The city counsel has no say on what city department is spending money. Each dept submits a budget proposal that gets approved by how much tax and grant money can be had. The streets department is replacing these streets with concrete which is much more expensive. They are fixing right. You should thank the streets dept. They are a hard working bunch!
