Forget Roswell, N.M. It seems Victoria has its own fair share of UFO sightings.
According to Advocate news reports over the past four decades, strange lights in the sky and oddly shaped objects zig-zagging across the horizon abound in this area. Below are just a few of the accounts recorded over the years:
January 2008: Two Victoria teens spot a bluish-white light in the sky that they believe is a UFO on Upper Mission Valley Road around 1 a.m. One of the boys claims it’s the second UFO he’s seen in the past two weeks in the area.
October 1997: Strange lights in the sky are noticed over Reeves Ranch in Victoria County. People who live in the area claim the lights have appeared for a number of years.
December 1996: Director of the Mutual UFO Network announces several reports being filed by Victoria residents over the past six months that claim to have seen UFO’s hovering over their houses.
August 1991: A nurse is convinced she spotted a UFO from a window of her home on Loma Vista at 12:35 a.m.
November 1991: Victoria woman comes forward, stating she has seen repeated sightings of alien spacecraft over the past five years and has photographic evidence.
November 1982: Half a dozen people claim they saw a UFO to the west of Victoria around 6 p.m., which was described as a dark, saucer shaped object.
February 1977: 21 Victoria residents claim they have seen a UFO at least once in their lives while attending a lecture on Unidentified Flying Objects at Victoria College by nuclear physicist Stanton Friedman.
December 1976: Four officers of the Texas Department of Public Safety in Victoria claim to have seen a UFO near the Jackson County line while on duty.
October 1973: UFOs were reported by two families in the Mission Valley area northwest of Victoria around 9 p.m. The objects in the sky were described as shaped like plates with “smaller red lights leaving.” More reports follow from other Victorian residents soon after the initial report.
December 1969: Three Victoria youths report seeing a football-shaped object flying in an erratic manner over Victoria.
January 1967: Two Victoria High School students report seeing two UFOs zig-zagging across the sky. The UFOs were described as “glowing, light objects with red blinking lights on top.”
