Dodie Osteen, mother of pastor Joel Osteen, will be the guest speaker for the 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services on Sunday at Faith Family Church, 2002 Mockingbird Lane.

Osteen, along with her late husband, started Houston’s Lakewood Church in 1959 on Mother’s Day. They had five children, each of whom became vocational ministers.

Her son, Joel, is the pastor of Lakewood now.

Her daughter, Tamara Graff, is the co-pastor of Faith Family Church and wife of Faith’s senior pastor Jim Graff.

Osteen continues to minister at Lakewood Church, leading a group that prays for the sick.

Her case of metatastic cancer recessed abruptly in 1981. Two years later, she published a book about her experiences, titled “Healed of Cancer.” She also wrote a daily devotional, “Choosing Life – One Day at a Time,” which was published in 2001.
