There will be two sets of road closures in Victoria next week: 1. Sections of Laurent Street in central Victoria will be closed over four nights beginning Monday night for construction.
The closings will be between Red River Street and Airline Road from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. in two block sections.
Public Works Director Lynn Short said because the work is being done at night when traffic is less, it should have less impact on drivers.
“That’s why they are doing it at night,” he said. “We’ll just be closing two-block sections during the nighttime hours to get water lines in.”
City Engineer Ken Gill also said businesses shouldn’t be severely affected.
Most are closed at that time of day anyway or have access from other streets, he said.
The contractor plans to begin the work between Red River Street to Park Avenue. Work will move to between Park and Loma Vista Avenue the second night; between Loma Vista and Hiller Street the third night; and between Hiller and Airline Road the fourth night.
The construction is part of the $9.89 million Laurent Street reconstruction project between Houston Highway and Airline.
The contractor is Triple B Services Inc. of Huffman. The project will take about 18 months to complete.
2. A section of Ben Jordan between John Stockbauer and Sam Houston will be closed for about four weeks beginning Monday. This work had been slated to begin last week but was postponed due to rain.
