Daniel Alvarado was sentenced to 20 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 9-year-old girl in October 2006.
Alvarado, 41, of Victoria, was also sentenced to 20 years in prison for indecency with a child. The sentences will be served at the same time, Assistant District Attorney Brian Hrach said Friday.
The attorney said the abuse occurred over a period of months.
A jury took 15 minutes on July 16 to find him guilty of both charges.
Then on Wednesday, District Judge Robert C. Cheshire assessed his punishment, Hrach said.
The Victoria County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case.
Alvarado was represented by Luis Martinez of Victoria. He was not available for comment on Friday.

July 26, 2008 at 10:08 p.m.How do you know there was abuse in the Ratcliff case? Where you there? No, you were not. You only know what you've been told. This little girl was sexually abused and it was proven. When Ratcliff is proven to have sexually abused a minor, then I think you can cry "foul". Until then, he is only guilty of lying to a Grand Jury about having sexual relations with a MAN! There is no evidence of a child's having been involved. Please quit propogating the myth which is all it is until it is proven fact. I do not know Ratcliff and I'd be the 1st to want him to rot in Hades if he sexually abused a child, but we do not have any proof of that and are likely never to have the proof. In that case, all we can do is wait to see how he is judged in the hereafter.
July 26, 2008 at 8:49 p.m.It's called ABUSE ABUSE ABUSE! South Texas!
July 26, 2008 at 8:22 p.m.Please relate to me the similarities between this case and the Ratcliff case.
There are none....I don't think this little girl is out doing and dealing drugs and using her story to get out of a jail sentence, nor do I think she waited 10 years to tell anyone she was abused. You guys get a grip!!!
July 26, 2008 at 3:51 p.m.ratliff should have gotten the same!
July 26, 2008 at 2:43 p.m.Compare this with the plea bargain in the "other" infamous sexual assault trial we have going on in our community. Maybe we shouldn't have been so quick to insist the local DA stay out of it.
