Yoakum Mayor Annie Rodriguez, Yoakum Economical Development Corp Secretary Allen Dieringer, and Economic/Community Development Coordinator Patrick J. Kennedy attended Congressman Ruben Hinojosa’s Sixth Texas Regional Leaders Issues Conference in July. The conference is a bi-annual event that brings together local elected officials, education administrators, municipal representatives, economic development officers, chambers of commerce, and non-profit organizers to Washington, D.C. for two days of panel discussions, agency meetings and networking opportunities.

Leonard Bonorden was selected as JC Penney’s Associate of the Month for July. Bonorden is a member of the sales support team and is involved with shipping and receiving of merchandise. He has been with JC Penney for 21 years.

Sylvia Deleon was selected as Associate of the Month for May at JC Penney in the Victoria Mall. Deleon was chosen for her excellent customer service in the lingerie department. Deleon has been employed by JC Penney for 17 years.

Leslie Escalante was recently promoted to senior vice president retail area manager at First Victoria. She currently oversees 10 banking centers in the southern and coastal regions along with the bank’s call center. Escalante has 25 years of banking experience and attended Victoria College and Southwest Texas State University.

Nancy Baass was recently elected the 28th president of the National Federation of State Poetry Societies, Inc. for the two-year term of 2008-2010, after 12 years of service on the NFSPS executive board. She is, also, currently serving on the executive board of the Poetry Society of Texas, a member society of NFSPS.

Tim Smith Jr. was recently hired as an alumni relations/development specialist at the University of Houston-Victoria. Smith will coordinate efforts to expand relationships with alumni and increase support among graduates. Smith holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from UHV and is pursuing a Global Master of Business Administration in finance.

Edward Jones Financial Advisor Robert L. Steed recently received the Managing Partner’s Award for his outstanding sales and service efforts over the past year. Steed was one of only 1,005 of the firm’s more than 10,000 financial advisors to receive the Managing Partner’s Award.
