It was a rough day on the links for a number of area junior golfers as only two players were able to break 90 at the South Texas PGA Junior Tour event at Rockport Country Club on Monday.

Flatonia’s Kraig Zimmerhanzel won the boys 12-13 age division with an 85 and Shiner’s Matthew Pohler tied for fifth in the boys 14-15 division with an 89.

Victoria’ Shannon Hawes finished third in the boys 12-13 division with a 94, while Port Lavaca’s Greyson Parker was fifth with a 104.

Following Pohler in the boys 14-15 division, Yoakum’s Thomas Mabry had a 112, Karnes City’s Austin Adams a 113 and Victoria’s Garrett Wakefield a 114.

Victoria’s Ashley Weaver tied for seventh in the girls 16-18 division with a 96, while Victoria’s Paige Moran added a 114.

In the boys 16-18 division, Port Lavaca’s Tanner Hermes had a 95 and Woodsboro’s Josh Fierova a 102, while in the girls 14-15 division, Port Lavaca’s Hannah Crone had a 127.

At the STPGA junior event at Greyrock Golf Club in Austin, Victoria’s Maddy Buhler was tied for second in the girls 12-13 division with an opening-round 87, while Weimar’s Trey Davila was tied for second in the boys 12-13 division with a 77. Yorktown’s Robert Knobles was in 12th place in the boys 16-18 division with an 84. The final round is slated for today.
