Editor, the Advocate:

In future history books this era in history will be known as the decadent era. The United States is slowly but surely becoming rotten at the core and everyone knows that one bad apple can spoil the whole lot. We are constantly bombarded by the media with iffy half-truth statements, which are designed to influence our way of thinking and sway our opinions over to the left, the left in this country have dragged us down to the depths of despair toward the future of this great land. We must roll up our sleeves and say “enough is enough.” We have a presidential candidate who is traveling all over the world like a rock star, and people, like sheep, are being led astray. We need a candidate for president who is experienced and qualified, who knows all that needs to be accomplished and will fight for this great nation. So it is time to face reality and take our nation back from the brink of ruin and despair.

  • ...and neither Presidential candidate is capable of that, in my opinion.

But, let's face it: Every generation looks back and longs for the "good old days." Were the good old days really that good? I'm guessing from the way you write that (if anyone knows Bette, please correct me) that you are part of the Greatest Generation. During your time, the US experienced the Great Depression, fought and won a world war that threatened freedom just as seriously as terrorism, and saw the rise of the prospect of nuclear doom as a daily threat.

Things are bad now, but they've been bad before. If you study history, most things are cyclical. I personally think that the current Presidential administration has squandered a lot of America's influence in the world (and, I'm ashamed to say, I voted for the guy). But, this too shall pass.

How about we use the same rose-colored glasses that we look back with and look to the future. There's a lot wrong with our country, but there is a lot of potential too.
