The only people who need to have a cell phone are the teachers. Students should not have cell phones at school at all, only the teachers.

Jerry

Yes, I think the phones should be cut off, even when they are in school and not just when they are in the classroom.

Manuel

No, they are not supposed to be conversing with each other when they are in class, much less on their phones.

Marty

Port Lavaca

In regards to students with cell phones: Yes, they should be shut off in the classroom. Common sense dictates that. It’s past time for some of them to start learning some manners.

I would like to talk about the 19 immigrants who died five years ago. I feel very sorry for the families and of course for those who died. But it is not new news anymore. I am sick of opening the paper and seeing it on the front page. It is just not the news that we want to look at any more.

I ride a bicycle all the time. I obey the law. That is why I don’t get killed by all these great big pickups that have these young punks behind them.

Patrick

On cell phones in the classrooms: I don’t believe that they should even have cell phones in the schoolhouse. The school has phones for emergencies.

I wanted to respond to Patrick from Inez on his speak out comments in Tuesday’s Viewpoints. Patrick, I only have two questions for you: Where will these public hangings take place? Can I have the concession stand and serve popcorn and cokes?

I would like to comment on that Saudi piece that you had in the paper. If that was meant to make us feel sorry for them, well it didn’t do it. I think what all the countries ought to do is what the Saudis did with the OPEC deal. Get all ... the imports that go to them, and we should raise the prices up on that. Once they start feeling the pinch, maybe they will bring their prices of oil down. Then we can bring the price of their imports down.

Cell phones, what are they good for except to blab over? I don’t have one, I’ve never had one, and I don’t intend to have one. All they are, are just for women to blab on. That’s what I think about them. As far as going to school, I think they shouldn’t even be able to take them to school. That’s my opinion on cell phones.

I agree with Claire about the apartments. I’m a working mother, single with two kids. It is very hard to pay the rent for the apartments here in Victoria. They are not worth the price that you have to pay. But, because we have a shortage, they can charge us anything. We have to have a place to live, so we pay it. I’m thinking about moving to a different town so I can afford it.
