WHARTON – What should our water supply look like in 100 years?

The Lower Colorado River Authority wants residents to speak out about their water priorities in the Colorado River Basin, spokesman Robert Cullick said.

With explosive growth in the region and a population to double by mid-century, residents can voice what our future water sources would be, Cullick said.

“We need to do for the next generation what our grandfathers and grandmothers did for us,” he said about the planning 75 years ago that supported dams. “It’s our responsibility to plan it for our grandchildren.”

The water-planning process would be staged over the next 30 to 40 years. Residents can say whether they would like more conservation, desalination or perhaps a conjunctive groundwater and surface water plan, Cullick said.

Anyone concerned about water should come to these water supply discussions, he said. Customers of water, like businesses and farms or even those who like to canoe, should come.

To prepare, visit www.lcra.org/watersupply and fill out a survey to get thinking, Cullick said.
