The Texas Department of Public Safety has designated Friday through Sunday as Operation Holiday. This is a period where all troopers from all departments are assigned to work holiday traffic.

State troopers from across the nation will be participating in Operation Combined Accident Reduction Effort during Operation Holiday, according to a news release from the DPS.

All troopers assigned to Texas Highway Patrol, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement and Drivers License Division will be working during that period.

DPS did not work any fatal collisions in 2004 or the past two years during the July 4 holiday period, according to the news release.

Troopers are warning drivers to not drink and have everyone in the vehicle properly secured in their safety belts or proper safety seat, according to the news release.

They also encourage drivers to slow down for bad weather or road conditions. They caution drivers to pull over to a safe place for cell phone calls, be courteous while driving and be sure that the vehicle is roadworthy before making a long trip.
