Editor, the Advocate:

They say that in the near future, to watch TV, we will need to have a high definition TV. We will no longer be able to receive channels on just a regular TV unless you have a certain analog converter box. Well I do not think that is fair. Many people cannot afford a new TV, or boxes you have to add just so you can watch a few shows.

I believe that HD TV should be optional. If it’s something you would like to have, get it. But, if you choose not to have HD TV, I believe you should have that option. Personally my family doesn’t watch enough TV to go to the extra expense, especially when the programming of TV today is not that great.

We need more activities in Victoria for teenagers. One reason why most of the teenagers in Victoria are all drug heads is because they have nothing better to do with their time. If we can spend some money to improve our mall, then they can build an off-road park, or a place where teens will want to hang out and spend their time after school and on the weekends.

I think the new schools are a waste of money. I don’t think there is anything wrong with the schools we have now.

All the money they are going to use to build these schools could be used to remodel our current schools. All the (existing schools) need is a face-lift, and they will be good.

So I think these new schools will be a waste of money.

What happened to the honor of a family? Nowadays, families tend to fall apart and separate. It seems that divorce is becoming more common in this world. Families are supposed to be lasting and trusting, but now people seem more willing to abuse and leave their families. This can affect any kind of family no matter how close or trusting it may seem. Why is a person more willing to lie, cheat, and steal from their family than help raise the young ones to be better persons? It is my belief that family members should learn to be more trusting and close to each other, not a pest or another mouth to feed.

Is the death penalty right? In my opinion it’s right in some cases. Example: Someone who is going wild on a killing spree should, yes, indeed, be punished with the death penalty. On the other hand, someone who commits a minor but serious crime shouldn’t be punished like that. The death penalty is somewhat a cruel and unusual punishment. The punishment kills the fathers, mothers, and other relatives of those who care. Yes, the time should depend on the crime.

Why are we fighting this war in Iraq? Why are we blaming Bush for this war, is it his fault that some of our men are acting like Hitler: cruel. Bush didn’t tell our men to take prisoners and beat them up, treat them like slaves, did he? No, he didn’t. Why do we, including me, hate Bush?

Why can’t we just make peace with them, swallow our pride and end this war once and for all? No more war, no more dead sons and daughters. Why should their parents have to worry about them? What if your son or daughter died in this war? How would you feel? Your baby is dead and gone forever. E-mail your comments to me at raymond.mesa@gmail.com.

Gas prices have been constantly rising every year. Sources say that we’ll be paying $4-plus by summer. We must find alternative sources of fuel quick, or we will be thronging all of our money just to go to work and back, which is no way to live. It also may help if we stop relying on foreign oil and concentrate on making are own oil.

  • ashley- you are right on the programming.  As for the view you gotta go HDTV.    I suggest getting a dish and w/ a tv that has HD. You can see a true difference.  The sports are unbelieveable. The programming choices are unreal as well.  I will never ever go back to cable.

  • Thank you all for sharing your high school views. Continue to write and seek a passion - for example; be Pro-Life or work to help families and end divorce, end abortion or contraception. Keep writing and above all seek a closure union with Jesus. Paul Tasin
