Editor, the Advocate:
RE: “Some of what Wright says is right” (Reuben Navarrette, May 5 Viewpoints).
It’s a true, intelligent, brave article. Of course, the pope can say anything as if he were God, and the masses eat it up. Of course, he didn't say much about all those child molesters in his church, or what should be done to them. The Rev. Wright is an American and can voice his opinion just as everyone else can and do. He is not O'Bama's God, and as intelligent as Sen. O'Bama is I'm sure he forms his own opinions. That is what indicates intelligence.

It is sad for anyone to compare Rev. Wright to the Pope. The Pope never "damned america" from his pulpit. Rev. Wright is a very disturbed person for what he said and for what he implies about America. Obama's character was hurt deeply for his ties to Rev. Wright and it should be. Obama should not be elected president with ties to people like Wright and Ayers. Our next president should be proud to be an American and I just find it hard to swallow that Obama is a true American and is proud of our country. Obama's campaign cries "race" for every comment other people make, but at the same time he brags that he gets 90%+ of the black vote. Our country needs a candidate that can bring us all together and that can lead us without injecting doubt about our country. People should not vote for a candidate based on race or gender, we should vote for the candidate that can lead us in a positive way. Obama is not that candidate.
May 12, 2008 at 6:51 a.m.Obama is free to form his own opinion and so are the rest of us. I just wonder how many people's opinions have changed about Obama since Rev. Wright. Bottom line is Obama is the weaker candidate for the democrats and I bet the Republicans are jumping for joy with the big possibility of Obama getting the nomination.
Here's part of a timely article from the New York Post:
"The Rev. Jeremiah Wright wouldnt mind seeing Barack Obamas presidential campaign derailed that's how angry he is over his former parishioners betrayal of their long relationship.
After 20 years of loving Barack like he was a member of his own family, for Jeremiah to see Barack saying over and over that he didnt know about Jeremiahs views during those years, that he wasnt familiar with what Jeremiah had said, that he may have missed church on this day or that and didnt hear what Jeremiah said, this is seen by Jeremiah as nonsense and betrayal, a source with ties to Wright told the Posts Fredric Dicker.
Jeremiah is trying to defend his congregation and the work of his ministry by saying what he is saying and doesnt care if he derails Obamas candidacy or not.
"Obamas relationship with Wright has been under fire ever since videos were made public earlier this year in which Wright claimed that the United States brought 9/11 on itself and people should say God damn America instead of God bless America.
"Obama has recently sought to distance himself from Wright, calling his remarks divisive and destructive on April 29 which angered the minister. But according to the source, Wright first became disillusioned with Obama last year when Obama unexpectedly barred him from participation in the public announcement of his presidential campaign.
"After Obama was embraced by this congregation as a brother in Christ, after his pastor was a father figure to him and gave him credibility in a city he had not grown up in, and in a black community that was suspect of someone from Hawaii and Harvard, he thanks him by not allowing him to speak publicly at his announcement last year? the source told Dicker.
Rev. Wright, as well as other senior members of his church, believe Obama has betrayed over 20 years of their supposed friendship.
May 11, 2008 at 2:36 p.m.I think the IQ of both of you has just increased slightly. Better late than never.
May 11, 2008 at 12:26 p.m.Well that makes two of us. I hate to do it but Obama looks shady to me.
May 10, 2008 at 3:58 p.m.Ten years ago I vowed that I would never vote Republican again...never say never.....I just flat don't get a warm and fuzzy feeling from Obama...if Clinton gives it up or she is pushed out...I am voting Republican in Nov.
May 10, 2008 at 1:22 p.m.If anyone knows Obama better than anyone, it would be Rev. Wright. He has been his advisor and friend for over 20 years as Obama has stated. Maybe Rev Wright knows something about him and that is why he did what he did. I fear for our nation if he is elected because there is something about him that is eerie. This guy could talk himself out of a crime because he is a smooth talker. He also tried to sound like MLK in his speech when he won in NC. Listen to him very carefully and find out for yourself
