The Victoria College is still looking for its next president. The personnel committee recommended Dr. Robert Musgrove, one of three finalists, to the board of trustees to approve at their meeting on Monday.

Before the meeting, Musgrove, president of Pine Technical College in Pine City, Minn., sent a letter to the college asking to remove his name from consideration. Current president Dr. Jimmy Goodson will retire on July 31.

“Essentially, he is going to continue to live in Minnesota in an enhanced position,” said trustee Ron Walker. “But we have an excellent institution with an excellent reputation and we anticipate choosing an excellent presidential candidate.”

The search will continue with the personnel committee, which will probably meet again this week.

The board also swore in three incumbent trustees - Ron Walker, Thomas Marion O’Connor and Roger Welder - to six-year terms after canvassing the results of the May 10 election.

Then the board reorganized and unanimously voted for Ron Walker as president, Ernest Guajardo Sr. as vice president and Roger Welder as secretary.

At the same meeting, the board recognized Morgan Dunn O’Connor, who sits on the University of Houston System board of regents and the University of Houston-Victoria president’s regional advisory board. The trustees presented her with an inscribed crystal bowl in a Tiffany’s box for her service to higher education on behalf of all the faculty and students at the college.

“I feel guilty taking something for work I enjoy,” O’Connor said. “All of us in higher education need to work diligently to educate the growing population. I dedicate this to my parents and their example to me.”
