No, I do not think that the city manager should get a 6-percent raise. He is getting paid enough money as it is. I would rather see the hourly paid employees, the full-time employees get maybe a 4- or 5- percent raise.

No, I don’t think the city manager should get a 6-percent pay raise? I think he is paid high enough already, and I think 3 percent at the most is all that he should get.

Why are there so many hypocrites in this country. People are saying kick all the illegal immigrants out, even though they have been here 10 or more years. “Nineteen died,” they say. “Who cares? They were illegals. Have you all converted to the Muslim faith?” They are all your brothers in the same faith. The pope is your leader, so why are you trying to crucify these people?

What ever happened to Texas being the friendship state. Why would any Texan want to interrupt another’s pursuit of happiness. If you are not gay, then gay marriage has nothing to do with you. Just let it be. The way marriages work out, maybe all marriages should be illegal.

I don’t think that the manager should get a raise. The question is, why should he get a raise? When was the last time the city got a raise? I think there are too many people at the top making all the money.

I do not think that the city manager deserves a raise.

I want to commend you Victoria Advocate, first of all, for continuing to bring up a subject that is not only a major issue in this country but is in fact happening in our own backyard: gay marriage and gays in general.
In my opinion, you do not have a liberal agenda as I keep reading in the paper and some people keep sending in to you. You are doing what a good newspaper does, which is report the news.

I’m an old Southern Baptist. I believe as the Bible says, judge ye not. Why should we judge gay marriages, or anyone else? The thief on the cross is going to heaven. Judge ye not.

About the city manager getting a raise: He is already overpaid. He should get a 10-percent pay cut. The other one — Arnold — was overpaid, what is the matter with you people and the City Council.
This joker is overpaid for doing nothing. This is ridiculous. Cut his pay, give the garbage people a raise.

Just another case of city council NOT listening to what the public has to say. They have and always do what they want to do and to heck with what the citizens have to say. IF and I repeat IF our city manager's job and performance was anything more than a token job then maybe he should have a raise - try 3% like other city employees got. How can he be compared to other city managers when we do not even know what city managers his job was compared to? Yeah right, the New York city manager probably does a lot more than ours does so maybe he or she would deserve high pay. But have no fear, our faithful city council will continue to reward his work with more money and the peons doing the real work will get zip. Would have been a nice touch if he refused it and asked that it be split among city employees instead.
May 22, 2008 at 3:11 p.m.Gay marriage is wrong according to the Bible. We make judgments every day about the choices we make in life. Our choices have consequences. God loves all people, but he hates our sins. Homosexual lifestyles lead to broken homes, broken marriages, and sometimes early death. This is not God's plan for anyone. The Bible says so. Read the book. From another Don in Crescent Valley.
